For the true 'Essence of Maine' vacation, enjoy a charming rustic cabin in the woods. Centrally located on Mount Desert Island, the cabin is located on 4 wooded acres and across the street from Echo Lake. Echo Lake is a great swimming, kayaking, paddle board and windsurfing lake. Close to all Acadia National Park activities. The free Island Explorer bus will pick you and your bike up at the end of the driveway for easy travel to Acadia's Carriage roads, trails and Bar Harbor. Relax in privacy on the covered front porch yet be only steps away from the lake.
Enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Great location close to the lake and Acadia State Park. The only drawback is the road noise as is stated in other reviews. Lots of cars travel the road in front of the cabin at fairly high speeds. Also, if you are used to warm weather, get the wood burning stove going right away; it was cold inside! This is not a winterized cabin. Pepper had everything ready for us (including the wood stove) when we got there. The place had everything we needed. Try to arrive at the cabin during daylight hours; we got there in the dark and had trouble finding it.
What a super cute cabin we picked for our vacation!! Private yet close to everything! We stayed from 9/22-9/25. I wish we had more time to explore the island as there is so much to see and do but unfortunately, this was a short stay for us! Definitely planning a return trip!!! The cabin had a great rustic feel with all the comforts of home. We saw a deer and a fox the very first day at the cabin plus tons of fun little chipmunks! What fun!! The owners are super nice people who are sweet and easy going so definitely give this little gem a try!!!

Echo lake view cabin was exactly as described. The location was perfect for visiting all of Mt Desert Island including easy access to Bar Harbor, Bass and Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Acadia National Park. The fantastic wood stove was ready for a fire on a chilly damp Sunday afternoon. The space was perfect and comfortable. We received an advance email with welcome info. All communication was prompt and accurate. Traffic, as mentioned by others, was present but not a big issue during our mid September visit. The location, cozy feel, beautiful lake, fantastic sunsets (fog and clear), and the crystal clear star filled nights far outweighed traffic. Deer outside the cabin in the mornings and loon calls at night-Maine at its most glorious. We strongly recommend Echo Lake Cabin for a rustic Maine woods experience. Thank you Pepper and David.

This place was perfect for me and my boyfriend. We loved the rustic feel. Very clean, and it was great to have good hot water and WIFI. Our favorite part was definitely the access to the lake right across the street. Perfect way to end the day. We definitely plan to return!
Location is great for fully exploring and enjoying Mount Desert Island. The place is perfect if looking for a cabin experience in the Maine woods...right at the base of Mount Acadia (definitely worth a hike up to the top for views of Echo Lake, Somes Sound, and Southwest Harbor). Photos on the website give you sense of what to expect. The cabin is very well kept, exceptionally clean, and well equipped. Its basic, no TV, but good radio and WIFI and great for a couple or small family. Finding plastic wrap, soap and shampoo, and charcoal, and even a fire set up and ready to light in the wood stove was a good touch. Communication with the owner was easy and they were extremely responsive to questions. Reviews about the road noise are accurate and traffic passes by very quickly. That said, the cabin itself is set back quite a way back and up the hill in the woods. Owner recommendations for groceries, restaurants, and things were helpful. The Lake is beautiful and the stars at night are worth walking down to the lake to see. Mount Desert Island and Acadia are outstanding place for kayaking, hiking, biking, and eating! Lobster rolls, lobster pounds, chowders, and blueberries. Definitely a place to return to!
Very clean. Luxurious bedding. Nice kitchen supplies. Nice swimming right accross the road. Absolutely loved Acadia NP. We hiked 23 miles in 3.5 days. 6 peak circuit was worth it. Acadia Mtn stopped at Man-o-War Brook was amazing. Delicious lobster. Thanks for providing a lobster pot. Only reason a 4 is due to road noise and traffic. But definitely worth it for location.
Enjoy the privacy of your own woods with all the activities of Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island close at hand. Convenient central location from which to explore the entire island and all it has to offer.
