Perfect little cottage
We had a wonderful time at Blackbeck Cottage. Fully renovated throughout and furnished to a high standard. Well stocked kitchen with everything you could need. The roll top bath is amazing, perfect for soaking in after a long day of walking. Ullock proved to be a good base for exploring surrounding areas such as Cockermouth, Keswick, Buttermere and Whitehaven although you would definitely need your own transport as there’s no public transport.

This cottage has everything you could think of to make your holiday as relaxing as possible, and the cleanliness was first class. It is in a peaceful location, but not too far from some amazing lakes such as Derwent, Buttermere, Grasemere and Rydal to name a few. The owner Jane was very welcoming and left us some amazing scones, with jam and cream, which was a nice touch. Would definitely go back again and recommend to others.

We have been self-catering in the Lakes for nearly 30 years, on and off, and this may well be the best cottage we have stayed in. It was done up last year and the inside is very nice indeed, with everything new and clean, but at the same time with a cosy and homely feel. The downstairs is open plan which makes it feel spacious, with a large bathroom in addition to the en suite one next to one of the upstairs bedrooms.
What elevates Blackbeck further is the attention to detail and care in the way its been fitted out and equipped. A lot of self-catering these days has been nicely modernised in terms of wooden floors, new bathroom etc., but we have found that (for whatever reason, perhaps because they don't plan on living there) the owners then economise a bit on the smaller stuff, for example the quality and quantity of the kitchen equipment. The kitchen at Blackbeck is very fully kitted out (indeed, some stuff we don't have at home!). Jane the owner, who lives in the village, was also very welcoming and helpful - thanks Jane.
Location-wise, its true there aren't the hill walks straight from the door that you'd get in the South Lakes, say. However, the Northern end is much much quieter and also the roads are bigger/better, so actually you can be walking in the hills very quickly and have the choice of zipping round Keswick way on the A road or down the east flank to Ennerdale etc.
Wonderful stay, a warm welcome with delicious scones on arrival and treats for the dogs.

Quite snug in the main bedroom
