Cute cabin tucked away on a quiet pond with very little light pollution allowed us the best star gazing from the end of dock. Seriously- I have never seen stars so bright or sparkly.
The kitchen was stocked with all the essential pans and utensils and had an outdoor gril on the deck.
Things I would change-
-The rental is listed in Ellsworth which is 25-30 min away. We were coming to the area to go to Acadia and this cabin was in Eastbrook which was even further away making our trip to Acadia about an hour and not 30 min.
- the communication with the owners about checkin directions prior to our trip was non existent. My emails and calls went unanswered until after our stay. Thankfully we were able to figure it out but it was a tad stressful to find the cabin.
My suggestion to the owners would be to give a little bit more direction on how to get to the cabin once on the road and how to get into the house so we knew before we got there.
A perfect Getaway
This was a perfect getaway for my husband and our two 9 month old twins. We used the downstairs room as a room for all of our clothes/baby stations and storage. We set up our rock-n-plays in the living room, and enjoyed the loft for our Pack-n-plays and our bed.
The kitchen was equipped with everything you could think of. A great touch to have dish soap, paper towels, and counter cleaner. Same with the Laundry room- very nice to offer laundry soap, dryer sheets etc. We did bring our own and ended up donating too!
Bathroom was equipped too! We did have to buy extra toilet paper- but there is a small store at the end of the road that had everything you needed. Water got very hot- so for me it was great! I enjoyed hot showers! We brought tons of food and enjoued dinners on the patio and lunch on the dock out to the water. There wasn't a single person around so it was so nice.
We brought our two pups too! We have a lab and a golden who thouroughly enjoyed jumping off the dock to catch tennis balls. My husband canoed every day to attempt fishing. We didn't catch anything but I am sure the dogs jumping in the pond scared the fish away! ha.
My only critique is that there wasn't a lot of communication during the booking process. I wasn't given any instruction as to how to get there, what to do when we arrived, or if there was anything we had to sign. Thankfully we came in the daylight or it would have been a mess. The address says 43 dickens street- that is NOT the address of the camp. it is a little over a mile down the road and you will see a sign with their last name on it in front of the cabin. I tried reaching out the week we were coming with no response. Luckily after driving around for a while we found the house (based off of what the pictures looked like) and walked right in as it was open and the keys were on the counters. SO that was a bit disorganized. That was the only reason for the 4-stars.
Everything else was perfect. We took about a 40 minute ride to Bar Harbor and enjoyed the afternoon, but spent the rest of the time enjoying the camp, in the quiet and just having family.
Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Overall the cabin could be great but the upkeep is not good...
The structure and layout of the cabin is nice and it's a very pretty lakefront property but it is hard to find. (I'd highly recommend the owner give her renters instructions on how to find the home).
The cleanliness of the home was the most disappointing. I'd highly recommend investing some more time and effort into basic cleaning- lots of spider webs everywhere. The towels were limited and had stains. Dishwasher was full-could not tell if they were clean or not? There was no extra toilet paper which should be a staple...beds were very very basic and not comfortable.
If you're not worried about a clean and comfortable home and just want a very basic lake front property that's very secluded then this will work for you but otherwise I'd search for something else.
A Hidden Gem
A wonderful place for a great price! Not too far away from Acadia/Bar Harbor. Would rent it again!
This is a hidden gem of a find , Fantastic lakeside cabin very enjoyable quit relaxing sorry it could not been a longer stay
Wonderful place and cabin
The cabin was as pictured and the pond excellent. We had a fantastic time. Heather was very accommodating as we arrived a little ahead of schedule that day. A little difficult to locate as GPS does not map.
A few small items on the negative. The dishwasher was broken and we didn't know until we arrived. Some games were missing batteries. Small potatoes compared to the loveliness of the site.
