Plenty of room for family group of 12

  • 5 of 5

Pros: Patrick, the owner and a man of great patience, is quick to respond to questions via email and text. I really appreciated how easy it was to communicate with him. To Patrick there are no stupid questions, so ask if you want to know. He will answer.

The house is roomy and well outfitted for a relaxing week. Everything needed for a comfortable stay was there. We brought in our own food -- there are two refrigerators and kitchens for storage and cooking.

I asked for linen service and paid the extra fee. It was well worth it to have the beds made as well as sheets and towels available. No need to pack in linens. And housekeeping took care of it all when we left as well.

Plenty of parking. Quiet location. Private but not completely removed from humanity.

Lovely setting! Having the house situated lakeside made for many relaxing moments. It was enjoyable to sit out there at any time of day. We saw many birds and beavers too! A large lilac tree in bloom was a delight as well.

We ate out for dinner several times during our stay and despite what may seem like a somewhat remote location, there are some very good restaurants within a few minutes drive. One day we even went to a nearby arcade and drove go-karts. Our primary aim in this vacation, though, was to relax and visit and the house was perfect for that.

Cons: I hate to even mention them since they are trivial but they are worth mentioning. There is internet but it is very slow. It was sufficient for checking email. Not so great for streaming video, downloads, or Skype. But then, that's not why we came out here anyway, so it certainly did not affect our vacation.

The house is a bit worn around the edges and would benefit from the attentions of a handyman. A broken shelf in the kitchen, loose tiles around the fireplace, a clogged gutter outside, nails working their way out of deck railings. Nothing major to detract from our enjoyment though.

A good choice for a large group

  • 5 of 5

We chose this house based on its location (equidistant for family members) and number of bedrooms. We feel like we got lucky because it worked out perfectly. Besides the 7 bedrooms and three bathrooms, there are two kitchens and two living areas. Depending on your inclination, you can spend your time in the lower level with fireplace, pool table, tv, sofas and kitchenette (we used the refrigerator for beverages) or the upper level with a larger kitchen, dining table, fireplace and plenty of comfy seating. Our group pretty much stayed upstairs and never turned the TV on during the 3 days we were there.

There are lots of windows that provide lovely views of the lake and the setting feels private from any neighboring houses. We were treated to about 7 inches of snow the first night we were there (in March) but someone came and plowed the driveway without our having to even make a call. There is plenty of parking -- we had 5 cars and there was ample room. There is a nice deck overlooking the lake that you access from a 3 season room. The temperature and snow kept us in the heated portion of the house but it would be lovely on warmer days to sit in the sun and enjoy the views.

The homeowners' association and its security team weren't really a problem for us. All guests provided name and address ahead of visit and all showed up at the security booth with proper ID. We got window tags for all five cars. After you hang the bright yellow tag, you merely have to approach booth and the guard raises the bar to let you in. One thing that is worth mentioning is that the house is not "inside" the gate. That may be why it has been described as hard to find. If you come in from Main Street and down Phillips Road, the security booth is about a mile down on the right. You then turn around the way you just came and go north on Main Street for about a mile and you will see the house number on your left. The driveway goes down a hill and hooks to the right and the house is right there on the lake. It is very quiet and private.

The beds all had pillows (more than you need), there were blankets but you need to bring your own sheets and towels. The house is heated with individual electric heating units and they all have their own thermostats. This was a bit confusing at first. But the thing to know is that turning up the heat in the living room will not heat up the other rooms. The owner was helpful and easy to communicate with.

Very very cozy! I'm never forgetting this place! I'm def booking it again

  • 5 of 5

WINTER: Upon looking at the house from outside it didn't seem like much but having the lake view was just the tip of the iceberg! The house has so many rooms! Immediately I felt cozy, as soon as you walk in the colors, lighting and carpeting gave me a good feel. The house has everything you need, from entertainment to full kitchen equipment.. this place is ready for you and your friends and family. I strongly recommend you read all the documents and study the map so you're stuck not asking too many questions! The 2 fire places are godsent! The pool table is def a great feature, though small but you're still able to enjoy it. Best time of our lives! Thanks for all the help Patrick Vance!
