|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
This newly built apartment is designed in keeping with the character of the village with local style windows and exposed chestnut beams which makes the apartment wonderfully cool in the summer and warmer in the winter months.
Tiled steps lead through a courtyard gate up to the door of the apartment which is situated above three small souvenir shops. The apartment has a veranda which offers an area for sunbathing or entertaining. This has a pergola overhead to prevent it becoming too hot but also allows a sun area. This has wonderful clear sea views over the deserted islands of Thio Adelfia which are visited on diving trips.
The apartment consists of two large rooms plus bathroom. It is tiled with a light grey tile and all furniture is in white wood. It is wonderfully airy and light. The sitting area has a large settee which opens into a king sized bed and there are also easy chairs and coffee tables. It is tastefully furnished with sideboard, books, TV, DVD and music player. There are three windows in the sitting area looking over the pedestrianised village street.
More usually the apartment is rented to two people but if a small child is accompanying them a simple pulldown bed is also available to save opening the king sized sofa if requested.
In the dining area is a dining table and chairs which seats 4/6 people and is situated next to a large picture window which perfectly frames the sea view as seen by our photos.
The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with hob, cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer. Plus ample china and cooking utensils.
Going through an archway and down one step is a small hallway which leads to the king sized bedroom. The bathroom is off this hallway.
The fully tiled bathroom has a shower plus bath, handbasin and units plus toilet. It is tiled in a pale blue and white.
The bedroom has balcony doors to the front and back with a small balcony on the village side and a large veranda on the sea side. The bedroom is quite large with furnishings in white. From the king sized bed you look directly out to the sea. The room has air conditioning although this is rarely used as the open beams plus front and back balcony doors make this room very pleasantly cool. A hair drier is provided as are beach towels, robes, ironing board and iron.
The main beach used by Hora residents is Megalo Mourtia. This is about ten minutes drive away and about twenty minutes walk. It offers excellent, safe swimming and snorkelling. Sun beds are available to patrons as are two very good beach tavernas which open until late evening in the height of the season. If you walk down usually someone will offer you a lift back up although most locals consider this their daily constitutional! and there is a shorter footpath route.
There are also the beaches of Micro Mourtia and Yialia nearby which are also favoured as being quieter than Megalo Mourtia but they do not have tavernas or drinks.
Patitiri, the main port and village of the island is ten minutes away by car or bus. There is also the original footpath which leads down to the village in about twenty minutes. This is the main shopping area and has quite a few tavernas, bars and coffee shops as well as the bank and ferry booking offices.
There are many bays and coves in Alonissos - some deserted and some with tavernas. Some are sandy and shallow, others are shingly or shelve more steeply. All offer excellent safe swimming and snorkeling with crystal clear sea water. You could literally go to a different beach each day of your holiday.
There are some fabulous drives to the north of the island and car hire is worthwhile although not essential. Taxis are available day and night plus the little local bus to the Hora operates until midnight in the height of the season. This bus is usually a little tardy starting up at the beginning of the season however!
There is a small shop in the Hora as well as a local bakers, ice cream parlour, tavernas, coffee shops and bars.
The Hora is really beautiful and very interesting. Certainly a photographers and artists paradise.
We also have a museum on the island which is well worth a trip to learn about the pirate past of Alonissos and our wine making history.
We have wonderful marked walks to be explored on your own as well as led walks by a very knowledgable leader. These are bookable as are all trips from the offices in Patitiri.
The waters around Alonissos are wonderful for diving and snorkeling. We have several dive facilities and it is possible to do PADI courses, trial dives as well as standard day or night dives. It is a thrill just to be on a boat and trips are offered to neighbouring islands in the Marine Park. Skopelos and Skiathos can also be visited on a day trip. Kayaks are available for hire with a guide and this makes a wonderful way to visit otherwise inaccessible bays.
We have visitors outside the main tourist season who love to come and paint, walk, admire the fauna and flora when the weather is not too hot. Also available are daily yoga classes, Alexander Technique and massage therapy.
we really enjoyed our stay in the apartment. it was well equipped (especially in the kitchen and stuff for the beach)and pretty clean. further it is well located - close to the mini market, the bus station and the bakery.
the hosts Karen and Costas are very friendly and helpful; they also picked us up from the port.
we would recommend it 100 %ly :)
We had a beautiful time in Karen's and Kostas very nice apartment in the Hora of Alonissos! Everything new, a very nice terrasse and an amazing view. Karen and Kostas are excellent hosts and everything is organized perfect.
We loved this apartment. It was great having all the mod cons right in the heart of the Old Village. It is well kitted out and we enjoyed all the little extra comforts provided - beach towels, bath robes, etc. Our top tip is getting your carry out meals from the snack bar called Peri Orexios (which is only 50 yards down the street) and enjoy with a bottle of wine on the terrace overlooking the Two Brothers, while watching the moon rise. Dead romantic! The location was ideal as a starting point for many an enjoyable walk, including down to the beach. We found the description of the layout of the apartment and the facilities available to be accurate. The property was spotless and you could see it was well maintained. Karen is very friendly. She met us at the port and drove us up to the apartment. She was always keen to make sure we had everything we needed and looked after us really well. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone considering a holiday on Alonissos. Go there, relax and enjoy. You won't regret it.
We spent the last days in September in Magnolia apartement in Alonissos and we enjoyed these days very much ! The apartement was excellent, very clean and so fully equipped, we had never seen before. We had a wonderful time in Alonissos and enjoyed bathing and walking to the chapels of Agii Anargiri, the hill of Vigla and to the small harbour of Steni Vala. We know a lot of Greek islands, bur Alonissos is one of the most beautiful of them ! I would say, Alonissos is a little bit like Greece in the former days and if you love Greece (as we do!) you will love Alonissos. Dear Karen, we hope we can make it possible to come to your beautiful island next year and see you again (we don´t forget the drink!)
Best wishes from Austria !
Johanna and Dietmar
My wife Daniela and I spent 9 days at Magnolia, late August 2014. We often travel greek islands, this time we choose to stay in the chora for our first visit to Alonissos. Magnolia is a good accomodation, totally up to its description and reviews. Furniture is not local, but it is brand new and very comfortable. We reccomend. Alonissos is a great place to discover day after day, taking time to drive to the more isolated beaches and smaller places.
As always, Greece is great ... amazing sea, fun food, good people !
Alonissos is the main inhabited island in the Marine Park which surrounds the waters of this beautiful island. The seas are crystal clear and unpolluted. It is the home of the rare and endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal and to Eleonora's Falcons. The sea offers wonderful snorkeling, diving, boating and swimming. It was once famous throughout the region for its fabulous wine and it was traded throughout the Aegean Sea area.
Alonissos has had its fair share of pirates and looters throughout history. It has been inhabited and abandoned numerous times. Its story can be traced in our local Museum in Patitiri, the port.
The Old Village of Alonissos or 'Hora' as it is known locally was built on a hill to enable its inhabitants to spot invaders at an early stage. . Its whitewashed houses and narrow streets were once surrounded by walls and this can still be seen at certain angles looking at the village. The village is pedestrianised and the main upper street has several little interesting shops, tavernas and coffee shops.
This lovely apartment is set within the Old Village of Alonissos with superb clear views out over the Aegean Sea to the islands of Thio Adelfia. It is in a private position with a courtyard gate and cannot be overlooked. The apartment is near to the stop for the local bus which goes down to the harbour of Patitiri and up the island to Steni Vala. It is also within easy reach of the beaches of Megalo Mourtia, Micro Mourtia, and Yialia.
It offers very comfortable accommodation for both summer and winter use with a spacious feel. It has balconies both front and back with ample space for sunbathing or entertaining. Staying in the Old Village offers an authentic experience of living in a Greek village with its local characters. For a small village it offers an excellent choice of tavernas, coffee bars and meeting places. It has a small store offering groceries and a lovely bakery to get that fresh bread each day for breakfast. Although recommended to explore the island more completely, a car is not essential as beaches are within walking distance as is the main port. Experience a slower pace of life in this most beautiful setting.
