The coldest month is January, which has temperatures that reach into the lower 40s and experiences common lows in the 20s.

How To Get There

Most visitors to the Tahoe area travel by way of car. Your route, when traveling to Lake Tahoe, is dependant upon whether you're visiting North Lake Tahoe or South Lake Tahoe. Those traveling by private car or rental car are able to access Lake Tahoe through I-80 to the north or US Highway 50 to the south. Visitors are also able to fly into the Reno - Tahoe International Airport. When traveling from the airport, it is about an hour's drive to Lake Tahoe by way of I-80. Train is also a viable option for those traveling to the Lake Tahoe area. Amtrak operates a train that travels from California to Chicago, and the train makes a stop in the Lake Tahoe area.
