Thanks so much for a wonderful stay! We loved this vacation dream condo, light, bright and easy to live in…marble floors throughout, leather sofa, and large dining table. Beautiful artwork from local artists. Comfy beds, the master overlooks the ocean. Walk-in showers and the kitchen is well stocked with equipment but we really didn’t use it much after we sampled the local food in town.
Most importantly, blessed, blessed air conditioning! We went mid-June and that really is close to the end of “the season” in Puerto Morelos so it was a bit hot and muggy but we loved it all the same. The pool is a cool dip, the ocean warm and the hot tube…well hot! Perfect.
When we were looking to book a place in Puerto Morelos or Cancun we read the reviews on this condo. Someone mentioned the road into town being rough and difficult to walk, well they have just paved the road so that isn’t an issue anymore. It is a little dark at night so we took a cab home (about $1.75!) most nights. But it really is a very safe place.
The Palma Real condo complex sits close to the local small port and we did see two ships loaded and unloaded for three of the 10 days we were there but I found it fascinating to watch. Its quite away out from shore and rest of the time there was nothing. Yes there is seaweed on the beach but they rack it daily and it was fine.
Puerto Morelos is a lovely small fishing village that is working hard to keep its identity with conservation programs. I hope they are able to do so. What I love about PM is how friendly the local people are. You can go to the bigger towns around the area like Cancun to the hotel district on the beach but about your only interaction with the locals will be when they are serving you! We loved interacting and talking to local people as equals, one person to another. We don’t speak any Spanish but there are plenty of local folks who speak English, kind of put us to shame. We used a translation APP on my iPhone when we needed help.
Prices are cheap and food is fabulous! By far our favorites were:
elNicho – Breakfast for sure!
elMerkadito-Seafood, Seafood, Seafood!
Cantina Habanero-Best Mojtios! Love their fish tacos.
Al Chimi Churri – Steak! Glorious Filet mignon …hugh and for about $14!
Carlos who manages the condo picked us up from the airport and booked a couple of day excursions for us. He was very helpful and when we had questions he was very available by phone. Thanks Carlos!
Hope this helps! Cheers!
