I kind of hate to write a 5 star review of the house as I fear that soon people will find Cliffside Falls and getting a reservation will become impossible! My family of 16 enjoyed the main house and the Ridgeview Suite (which connects to the main house) for our annual week vacation. As we arrived at the house, we were greeted with fresh chocolate chip cookies, chocolates on the bedside table in each bedroom, and wine and a goody basket, which was an amazingly generous and thoughtful touch that I have rarely (if ever) seen at past rentals (25+years of various properties). The views of the mountains from the house are outstanding, coupled with bird watching, hearing the falls, you really were in nature. We loved the falls and the kids spent countless hours trying to fish for natives using hand crafted rods from sticks! The walk down was a bit much for a few in the group (afraid of heights), but everyone got a view and could hear the sounds from the deck and viewing platform. The house had plenty of space, the bedrooms large and comfortable. The upstairs gameroom was a favorite for pool tournaments and the various decks were used from everything to early morning coffee and crosswords to late night star gazing (oh my the clear skies and to be there during the meteor shower). The kitchen is well stocked and as a family that cooked every night, we did not lack for pots/pans/gadgets. In case you do not look at a map, the house is remote and about 20 minutes from town; however, there are a ton of activities off property that we took advantage including: kayak/fishing trips on various segments of the S.Branch of the Potomac, tennis in town, golfing at the public course, exploring Lost River State Park, hiking/exploring Seneca Rocks, a tour at Smoke Hole Caverns, a trip on the Cass Scenic RR, a tour of the National Radio Observatory, antiquing in Winchester, and feeding fish at the hatchery (we fed lots of trout). It was a terrific vacation.
