            Nice relaxing Getaway

            5 of 5
Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We went to Higher Ground in the off season. The house has excellent bones and could accommodate a group of 12 easily. The house was in a bit of disrepair on the outside but they were in the process of sprucing it up. Inside was in very good shape with the exception of a number of very large stains on the upstairs carpet which were clearly from larger dogs who had stayed there previously. The entrance foyer is large and practical for dropping off all your gear with lots of hidden storage. Kitchen had everything we needed and we cooked in quite a bit. The babbling brook out back with the adirondack chairs was absolutely lovely - but if you have elderly guests they might not be able to get down there as it has a steep incline hill to get there. A nice house on a quiet street with excellent sweeping views from inside and out.

            Perfect Weekend Family Spot

            5 of 5
Everything was clean and nice. Directions were perfect and the area was beautiful. It was a perfect little spot to meet up with family. We went on walks, swam at the local pool, played at the park, and just had a nice family weekend. We hope to do it again sometime.

            Leaf Peeping

            5 of 5
Our group of four friends has been traveling together for many years, and the Slate Hill Schoolhouse definitely ranks high on our list of Most Charming Accommodations. We loved all the old school décor (even some barely visible initials carved into the classroom woodwork!), and the house was spacious, welcoming, and well appointed. Keith was very helpful during the reservation process, and he was kind enough to stop by to say hello. The surrounding area is beautiful, especially during the time of fall colors. Being from Maryland, we had all been to several spots in the area, including Luray, Front Royal, and Skyline Drive, but the Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park was new to all of us. The Visitor Contact Station was a great place to start, and we did a self-guided audio driving tour that gave us some new insights and an idea of the scope of this battle that took place late in the Civil War. After all that history and all that leaf-peeping, what could be better than some ice cream on a warm day? We headed to Flotzie's Soft Serve in Luray and enjoyed every lick. All in all, it was a great getaway--we might be back someday!
