I can recommend the Shore Meadow Farmhouse on Whidbey without reservation. Our family arranges for a New Year's retreat every year, this year including four adult couples and two small grand kids. The farmhouse suited our needs perfectly with five bedrooms and three bathrooms (on of the latter en suite). It is definitely a farmhouse although with obvious updates including comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms and furnished with antiques consistent with the rustic character of the house. The kitchen appliances are dated but totally functional and supported our traditional New Year feast easily. The dishwasher is small and requires multiple cycles of dirty dishes after a meal for a large group. It is surrounded by fields and wetlands that provide a peaceful and quiet ambiance. However, the town of Freeland is minutes away with a vast and excellent grocery store and other commercial establishments that can (and did) meet our every need. The lovely town of Langley is a short drive to the south and east and Green Bank Farm is also a short drive to the north. South Whidbey State Park is five miles down the road in one direction and Double Bluff beach is a little bit further in the opposite direction for excellent beach walks. It was a very cold weekend during our stay but the farmhouse was warm and welcoming on our arrival. The owner lives nearby and was extremely helpful in responding to my many inquiries and questions. She is a real asset to our stay.
