          Great family retreat. Great manager

we took our daughter and 2 grandchildren for a short vacation. Accommodations were great. but the real attraction is the location and the owners. Firstly there is a great tree house / look out that my grand kids loved. they ate and read up there. the kids can wander the entire VERY large property and explore. There is a canoe and a bunch of kayaks. We went canoeing and kayaking on the Chesapeake. There is plenty of wild life to observe that the kids were constantly entertained. Butterfly's, river otter's, tree frogs, turtles, eagles... In addition to all this you are about 35 minute ride to DC and all it has to offer. I would highly suggest discussing your DC plans with the owners. Their advice was invaluable. If all this is not enough the owners John & Carrie are the nicest and most interesting people. They are warm and welcoming. I very much enjoyed our evenings sitting outside overlooking the water as the sun is going down and talking with them. I also loved Carries art "journal", thanks for sharing. Needless to say I would highly recommend this to any nature lover who is looking for a great vacation.

          Very nice place to stay

The house was very clean, 30 minutes drive to DC, noticed a bus stop in walking distance but we did not try it. Orange line happened in maintainance during our stay, a little inconvenience, but manageable since I could drive in the city to pick my families up. The house location was very good, close enough to get on rt 66 highway quickly, but still quiet once getting off the road. There are both American grocery stores and Chinese grocery stores close by, house has some basic utensils to cook simple foods, though most of the pots are old. There was no detergent in the house, but we managed to buy a bottle from the near by Safeway store, still able to wash the cloths. Felt a little sorry for the owner since she had to live in the basement when we occupied the house. Overall very good experience staying in the house for 3 nights. Would recommend to others, and will definitely come back next time visiting DC area.
