My family just returned from what I believe was probably our sixth stay at Buck Lair, and I am long overdue to write a second review. Words can't express how much I love this place. My family has rented mountain cabins for long weekend getaways at least twice a year every year for as long as I can remember. We haven't rented any other mountain cabins since we first discovered Buck Lair a few years ago. My husband and I are both Virginia Tech graduates, so we consider the location of Buck Lair ideal-tucked away in the woods on a peaceful mountain stream, just a few miles from the best college town in the country (in our biased opinion). There are so many fun things to do nearby: attend a VT game, hike to the Cascades, take a beautiful drive to dinner at The Homeplace (this is a must)... I could go on and on. The cabin itself is as perfect as the location. I am picky about my home and where I stay. Buck Lair is so adorably decorated, cozy, meticulously maintained and spotless, I feel like it is my second home. Ruth is such an amazing hostess, her attention to detail and the little extras she provides just put this place over the top. I'm always looking forward to my next long, relaxing weekend here.
Finally, my only gripe: My family is pretty superstitious about our beloved Hokies, and we have noticed a trend... lately it seems they loose whatever football or basketball game they play when my family is staying at Buck Lair. This must stop, I love my Hokies but I'm not giving up on my favorite mountain getaway.
