Fireflies, morning mist, and unhurried family time

                    5 of 5
It's hard to capture in words the experience of staying at this wonderful farmhouse. Our first night, after getting settled in, our boys (17, 14, and 12) tried out the pool and then we all gathered in the hot tub after dinner; talked (really - three teenage boys!), laughed and watched as the fireflies came out, stars filled the enormous sky, we picked out the satellites, and crickets serenaded us. Mornings I was up early with our dogs; while they played in the fenced in yard, I enjoyed a peaceful cup of coffee, early dawn giving way to pink streaks of sunrise and mist lifting off the pool and the mountains in the distance. We went to the Fair Haven commons on Thursday to listen to a free concert. Rutland farmers market on Saturday with an abundance of fresh vegetables, fruit, honey, crafts, a variety of food and so much more. Days were spent reading and relaxing by the pool, swimming, playing board games, baking cookies and we even set up our ladder ball set in the back yard and had ladder ball competitions. My 14 year old caught (and released) baby toads. Cows and a distant train whistle added to the sounds of country that surrounded us. We saw deer and hummingbirds and on two nights we had horse and buggies from the Amish community in Whitehall, pass in front of the house. We drove over to Poultney to do a little shopping at the original Vermont store and had ice creams at Stewarts, amazing cold brew coffee at Mad Hatters and some fresh cheese and peanut butter we scooped ourselves from the co-op store. The boys were in the pool EVERY night - they preferred when the "water was warmer than the air". We ended our outside time every night in the hot tub...and found ourselves always asking - "does anyone have any idea what time it is?" The house itself is warm and welcoming with plenty of room for all of us. We all slowed down this past week and it was wonderful. There is something so nurturing being in a home surrounded by trees and mountains and open space as far as the eye can see. Bryan was wonderful to work with, the property was clean and well maintained. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a place to relax, recharge and have fun.

Great Family weekend in Country Setting

We thoroughly enjoyed the house. We were 13 and everyone was accommodated comfortably. The house was completely as promised. There was adequate service in the kitchen for all. The two fireplaces make for great gathering spots in the house. The fireplace in the kitchen/dining room was very welcome as we shared meals and / or played games at the kitchen table. Okemo is very nearby, exactly as promised. The main mountain base is well organized. A few of us did try Harrys (restaurant at JCT of 100/103) and found it to be very good. Be sure to think of reservations in advance. Kids and adults had a great time sledding behind the house on a non ski day. Great house for multiple families or a family reunion.
