      Perfect Family Lakeside Getaway

      4 of 5
We had a wonderful time staying at this property! It truly is a diamond in the rough. It's rustic feel, is like a step back in time. The cottage sits right alongside Lake Pauline with a great dock and we took advantage of the rowboat and canoe provided with the rental. The cottage is small, but intimate and we fit our family of 6 comfortably (plus our two dogs)! Because it is an older property without insulation, if you have children, you will be able to hear them from all areas of the home. The porch provides additional space for playing and the kids enjoyed sitting on the porch swing. Our 4 year old twins affectionately referred to the cottage as "the brown house." Our older son was in heaven because he was able to fish from the dock and walk down to the red bridge where Lake Pauline meets Lake Rescue for additional fishing at his "sweet spot." The children loved swimming at the swimming hole and our older daughter enjoyed sunbathing and reading from the dock. We even had the opportunity to grill one night and use the fire pit for S'mores! The kitchen is well equipped for your cooking needs, but I do recommend purchasing some disposable pans for larger meals. Also, I feel that the photos provided do not do this property justice. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was larger than the pictures let on to be and the bathroom was pleasantly updated and very clean. There are plenty of life vests and jackets (2 puddle jumpers for smaller kids), so there is no need to bring any. They also provide an inflatable raft, floats, extra fishing rods, plenty of outdoor seating, etc. Town is easily accessible with some cute restaurants and the Okemo Mountain Resort is right around the corner with lots of activities! Our first night we ate at Outback Pizza, which personally, I would skip. The pizza is very expensive and nothing to write home about (I grew up outside of NYC and love a good pizza). I was recommended to try Goodman's Pizza next time I am in town. You can even take a boat/canoe ride right across the lake to the Green Mountain Sugar House for their famous Maple Creemees and some souvenirs. I highly recommend this property for any one looking for a low key and low maintenance vacation, away from it all. We loved it and certainly hope to return again!
