My husband & I spent four days at the Pond House for our second honeymoon. The space was more than enough for the two of us. Very open with great views. Ellen was very friendly and always available if needed -- but never intrusive.
The apartment is not far from several breweries, wineries & distilleries, as well as some lovely hiking trails. In Burlington (about an hour away), we visited Magic Hat Brewing (free samples!), Zero Gravity Brewing (great flatbreads!), Switchback Brewing and Lake Champlain Chocolates (definitely spring for the hot cocoa!). In the Stowe area, we visited Alchemist Brewing (nice new visitor's center -- but be sure to get there early to get your allotment of Heddy Topper, etc). About 15-20 minutes away from that is Waterbury, where we found Prohibition Pig. Great little brewery with some yummy Mexican & BBQ (odd mix, but delicious). In addition to their brews, they also have Hill Farmstead beers on tap (a plus since we couldn't make it to that brewery). And of course, the Ben & Jerry's Factory is not far from that. A bit expensive, but delicious nonetheless. Closer to the Pond House, there's Brewster's River Pub (good beer selection, delicious Maple BBQ wings) and Smuggler's Notch Distillery (small location, but good spirits). Stowe & Smuggler's Notch ski resorts are also far away if you spend time there during the winter months.
Hanley's in town was perfect for groceries for the two of us for a few days. We wish there had been blinds on the front windows. Although blocking the incredible views seems like a crime, it would have helped block the sunlight which woke us up a bit earlier than we wanted to be awake on vacation.
Great property, great location and would definitely recommend for couples/small families for a weekend (or week-long) getaway.
