When we rented this cabin, there was very little information on the listing, only 1 or 2 pictures, and zero reviews. Here's what I wish I had known before we rented:
The cabin is "self catering" which means you bring all your own linens, blankets, and towels. Not a big deal since you don't pay an additional fee for linens, but just would have been nice for this to have been noted before. You're expected to clean before you go. Also not a big deal - saves you money - right? But this is banking on the hope that the folks before you were good cleaners. Personally, I would rather pay someone $100 to get it really clean...when we arrived, the bathroom was not very clean at all, I immediately used disinfecting wipes on everything. The kitchen and fridge did seem clean, however. The cabin is very old (the tin/metal? sink/cabinets combo in the kitchen is charming - reminds me of my grandparents home) and in that way, it's hard for it to feel super clean. Said kitchen is (as was noted in description) a galley kitchen and is adequate - I was able to feed a family of 5 simple meals all week with creativity. Do not expect to make gourmet meals. There was a "not working gas grill" on the property, so we purchased (and left) a basic charcoal grill.
The property itself, on the lake (there is a dirt driveway between your porch and the lake that cars are periodically using) is nice. The lake is very pretty and there is a little fire pit (with tiki torches!) right on the edge of the water - which we enjoyed very much. It's extremely quiet and the hills and stars and natural beauty are really quite great! The beach and swimming area are about 200 yards down previously mentioned driveway and are shared with several other cabins in the area. The beach area is also lovely and it was never too crowded while we were there. Having the use of the kayak and canoes was another huge plus - it was really fun to explore the lake with our kids.
We went on a couple of nearby hikes and it does seem like the area is a pleasant one to explore. We enjoyed the local Polar Caves, too!
Working with Bruce was great - he was responsive, accommodating and hospitable! We did have one encounter with his brother in law, Steve, who lives somewhere nearby in which we were treated extremely rudely - he was aggressive and generally quite disrespectful, considering the fact that we are actual human beings.
We had no cell phone service and there is no wifi. The TV is DVD only.
