My wife, son (age 14) and I took spring break staying at Liberton Tower and seeing central Scotland. The Tower House is everything you would expect from a 15th century fortified home. It is drafty, the floors creak at times, the high winds batter the windows making for all kinds of unusual noises in the night... In short, perfect! We went out late one evening and took a cab. On returning, the only question the cab driver had was "is that place haunted?". Nice! The second floor entrance onto the Great Room is a neat touch. The Great Room itself is where we spent evenings in front of a blazing fire in the fireplace. On arrival, we found a nice little basket of food and wine as well as some fruit on the dining table in the Great Room. This is a nice touch. The Kitchen is well appointed with a fridge, freezer, stove/oven, microwave, washer/dryer and dishwasher and the kitchen stocked with laundry soap and dish soap. We didn't know these items were provided and got into town a little early on our first day, so we went to the local grocery and bought all of the same. We basically used the Tower as a base to explore. We rented a car and went out every day to see castles, distilleries, cathedrals and churches. It is centrally located and an easy place to begin most any exploring. With a medium length telephoto lens, you can get some very nice pictures of the city of Edinburgh from the roof of the tower. On a nice sunny clear day you can see Edinburgh Castle, The Observatory and Arthur's seat quite well from the roof. Clear nights, the view is spectacular, but we only got one of those, was cool and windy with rain most of the week. Traveling should be an adventure. This tower house fits that bill. It isn't the downtown Hilton with maid service, it's a quirky 500 year old tower that has looked down on Edinburgh from that hillside since long before electric lights lit the city, since before there were cars on the streets and since long before it would have been possible for me to travel there from the States as Columbus hadn't even discovered the new world when this was built. If you want your bed turned down and a mint on your pillow, pass. If you want to get some kind of idea what it may have been like in the 15th century (with modern plumbing, hot water and hot water heat), this is the place. I wrote this as a 5 star review, this place is so unique, I'm not sure that says enough. I hope to be able to return some day

Great property and location to base your Scotish exploration.

John's apartment was ideal for my family of five adults with three bedrooms and bathrooms. The apartment was clean and beautifully appointed. We used this as a base to travel through the area but it could easily been used to relax and enjoy Crieff. It was very comfortable for my family and gave everyone space when needed. The tower area was a favorite place to sneak away. I was not sure how the apartment was laid out from the pictures. It is located up two flights of stairs. The bedrooms are all on the first floor along with the bathrooms. Two bathrooms are "wet" rooms and for an American it took some getting accustomed to showering without an I closed area. Make sure you move anything that should not get wet. Personally I was not a big fan but when in Rome... There is a winding staircase that leads to the second level which contains the family room, dinning area and kitchen. There is a nice balcony on this level as well along with a small TV viewing area. The staircase also leads to the tower area with fantastic views of the surrounding area. We did have an issue with the water heating system on our first day but we were able to fix it by going onto the Internet and adjusted the pressure to get the water circulating. They also had a plumber stop by later and we had no problems afterwards. Crieff is a quite town and closes early. There is a grocery store a few blocks south and twice we bought snacks and wine which we enjoyed back at the apartment. For Americans coming for a stay realize that you will need to bring shampoo and bar soap. Also, we never had washcloths. The beds all come with comforters but no single sheet. We ran into some warm days and the comforter was too much. But this was the same everywhere we stayed. Just different than what you find in the states. Nothing negative just different. I would highly recommend this property and it was delightful working with John. It really is a beautiful property.
