Royal West Indies is a beautifully landscaped condo complex with direct access to one of the most amazing beaches on Grace Bay. Property manager Simone Rigby was very friendly and accommodating. The second-floor, walk-up studio apartment is small, but clean and very well appointed. The washer/dryer and medium-size refrigerator were useful, but with just a toaster and microwave, the apartment isn't suited for cooking meals, which is too bad because restaurants and supermarkets are very expensive. The two double beds are comfortable and the bathroom, while small, does have a combination tub/shower.The balcony is spacious and comfortable with two chairs, a table and chaise lounge. It overlooks the pool and pool bar, which can be pretty noisy day and night, although everything quiets down by 10pm or so. There is an ocean view, but it's just a sliver of sea in the distance. The very best thing about Studio 324 is that it's just a three-minute walk to an amazing beach with super-fine white powder sand and sparkling-blue water. Comfortable chaise lounges and large umbrellas are available on the beach for guests. The on-site restaurant, Pelican Bay, serves lunch (try the fish tacos!) and dinner, though there are plenty of excellent restaurants on the island, many within walking distance. I'd recommend renting a car for at least part of your stay to see the rest of this beautiful island, and to avoid paying for taxis, which are expensive. (It's $25 per person from the airport; a 12-minute drive.) The only other issue we had is that there were lots of noisy children running around the complex all day long, especially by the main pool. (There is a smaller "quiet" pool with hot tub, which is much more pleasant.) We were there in late-March; the complex might be quieter during other times. Fortunately the kids weren't spending much time on the beach, so we'd go there to relax, listen to the gentle surf, and soak in the crystal-clear water. If you're looking for a beach vacation, you won't be disappointed with Royal West Indies resort and Grace Bay.
