                        Perfect for two

                        5 of 5
This was our best rental yet and we use VRBO a lot. The Placa Joanic is right at the center of the Metro map of Barcelona and it feels like it. One can walk to most parts of the city or just jump on the subway down the block. Getting out of town is a breeze. And the view from the expansive terrace - truly magnificent. The entire eastern and southern skies are visible. We watched boats in the harbor ( bring a telescope or binoculars if you have them ) and could watch the sun set over the mountains. On a smaller scale, the little park below us was a shifting hub -bub of action. Dogs playing, kids soccer games, ping pong, and locals chatting on benches, all right at our feet. The apartment itself is about average-sized by European standards, about 50 meters square. But it definitely feels larger with the high ceilings. constant sunlight, and big terrace. Kitchen was well-equipped and very functional. Bathroom was nicely done, with a good shower. Bedroom can be kept separate and quiet but even in February it was nice to crack the window and get fresh air while sleeping. The wifi worked well, except got a little slow at peak times , which was a neighborhood issue, not unique to our apartment. Everything you could want is obtainable within a 6 block radius- markets, bakeries, health club, wine store, empanada shop, bars to watch futbal- you really wouldn't ever have to leave the immediate neighborhood. Of course the owner can make or break even the best of apartments. Sandra was genuinely a delight. Very responsive right from our first email til our last day and just a sweetheart of a person. Her English is great. Taken all together this was about as nice a rental as a person could hope for. We spent a month here and would come back in a heartbeat. In fact we'd plan a trip around getting this very unit again if need be. Couldn't imagine staying anywhere else after this.

                        Experience the real Barcelona

                        5 of 5
Clean and spacious apartment in a great residential neighborhood. Near the University with a great food hall market around the corner overlooking a small park and playground. Owner and manager were both highly communicative and helpful. Everything was just as represented.

The perfect home base for a week in Barcelona

                        5 of 5
A perfect "home"! We arrived after more than 24 hours of traveling and were so glad that we had taken advantage of the offer to have a taxi waiting for us. The fellow was kind, spoke English and was willing to wait while we filed “missing baggage” forms! We were met by an apartment managers who explained how everything worked, made certain we had maps and a basic understanding of where stores/subway/etc. were located, and reassured us that our airlines could contact their office when our luggage was found. We found the apartment to be absolutely immaculate. The large windows in both the living area and bedroom provided wonderful light during the day and the privacy screens gave us the ability to close off the world at night. The mattresses were firm but comfortable. Good closet space too. The bathroom was large with plenty of space to put our “stuff” – and we rank the shower has one of the best we’ve encountered! We like to cook, and the kitchen more then met all of our needs. Full size refrigerator, smooth glass top stove, microwave-oven combination (state of the art), adequate pots and pans, and a dishwasher with complimentary detergent pods as well a liquid detergent and hand washing soap. We enjoy purchasing local foods to prepare for dinner and were so pleased to discover two huge indoor markets within easy walking distance. Both markets had many diverse vendors selling fruits, vegetables, fish, meats, cheese, and more. There were also plenty of individual shops selling eggs, pastries, breads, pasta – even “bring your own bottle” wine store with local wines! We also appreciated the fact that the subway was an easy three block walk. Having used subway systems in Montreal, New York City, and Berlin (just to name a few), we feel that Barcelona’s subway system is one of the best. Clean, user friendly, with frequent trains that arrived on time, the subway got us to all parts of Barcelona – even to the train station where we took a one day trip to Gerona. The best part about this apartment is that it is in the Garcia Neighborhood. The area has many lovely green spaces, fountains, plazas and churches. We loved walking the area in the evening as families and friends gathered to play, to eat gelato, or simply to talk. There is a strong sense of community here and we were delighted to be a part of it for a short week.
