My wife and I spent twenty enjoyable days in October at Julia’s attractive “Cathedral apartment.”
We received excellent personal attention from Julia. She was responsive to our needs, answering our emails quickly and arranging an early check-in for us.
Julia’s Cathedral apartment has only eight steps from its street level entrance … nice after full day of walking. The location was ideal. Las Ramblas, the waterfront, El Born district, and Placa de la Catalunya … all were less than a ten minute walk in the four directions. The Eixample district, slightly further, was convenient via the nearby metro, if you didn’t want to walk.
We slept well. The queen-size bed (62 inches wide) was comfortable, and the street was quiet at night. We felt safe all the time. The street was well lighted, and the private, street-level entrance was well secured. We especially enjoyed the shower … great water pressure.
Although some taxis may be willing to drive to the Neri Hotel, which was ten yards (9 meters) from the apartment, our driver was not (or possibly was not allowed at that time of day), and he left us off at Placa de Jaume, approximately 125 yards (115 meters) from the apartment. It was an easy walk, since we had wheels on our luggage. A better bet would have been taking Julia’s recommendation to have the taxi drop us at the Barcelona Cathedral, near Carrer del Bisbe, which is slightly closer and a three minute walk to the apartment. A car service did pick us up at the Neri Hotel when we departed at the end of our stay.
As with any rental apartment, there were some minor inconveniences, but none of them would prevent us from returning. Drawer space was minimal, but there was plenty of hanger space. The apartment had only one window; however, the lighting, ventilation and A/C were more than adequate, even in the bedroom.
Three erroneous items on Julia’s vrbo website confused us when we first considered the apartment. The picture “living room on the upper floor” showed a cadenza with drawers; that cadenza isn’t in the apartment any more, and the dining table exists in that spot now. Secondly, the photo “entrance to apartment” really is a camera shot FROM the apartment door. Finally, one review that mentioned an elevator was a review of another of Julia’s apartments.
In sum, an excellent apartment with some great attributes, especially location! We definitely will recommend it to our friends. Thank you, Julia!
