                            Rambling Las Ramblas

                            5 of 5
Four of us, two couples, stayed here when we visited Barcelona. The accommodations worked well for us. The apartment is located on a quiet street within walking distance of Las Ramblas, El Mercado, Placa Catalonia, the waterfront, Placa Real and lots of restaurants. The apartment is clean, and well maintained. It has two small bedrooms and one larger one. The two bedrooms which face the street are pretty well sound proofed. Our traveling companions reported hearing loud voices, briefly. My wife and I took the bedroom which has a window opening onto an air shaft. We slept comfortably with the window open. The two bathrooms are off the hall. One is a full bath. The other has small shower. The kitchen is set up for long term living but we really didn't use the facilities. We did use the washing machine and the dryer. When we travel, accommodations like this apartment are perfect. We get our coffee in the morning then we're gone till it's time for shower and bed. The apartment is very secure with a lock on the door at street level and a heavy duty lockable door at the entrance to the apartment. Javier, the owner and host is friendly and knowledgeable about things to do, nearby. Natasha, his assistant, likewise is very knowledgeable. She is British and helps Javier (who really does speak good English) with any translation issues. She is married to a Barcelona policeman and in that capacity was able to give us tips on staying safe. Two complaints. The elevator smells of urine. We wondered if neighbors' dogs might be the culprits. The other is with the door lock itself. As it is, a key is required to unlock the door from inside the apartment. A turn button on the inside is safer in case of an emergency requiring a panicked evacuation.

                            Wonderful apartment, fantastic location

                            5 of 5
We arrived in the evening, called Duncan, the manager, upon arrival at the airport and he was at the apartment to greet us. Duncan was very helpful, giving us hints and explaining how everything works. The apartment looks just like the pictures - the age and character are an added bonus, though the bathroom has just been recently updated, the tile has been replaced with grey cement and there is now a glass shower door. We immediately headed across the way to the wine shop, Vila Vini Teca, which is fabulous, they also also have a food shop on the opposite corner, which sells jamon iberico along with wonderful cheeses, fruits and vegetables, a foodies delight. At the end of the block is a market where you can pick up staples. In the morning we ran to the bakery which is two doors away and delicious. The location could not be better - you can walk to everything in the Gothic area, the subway is a five minute walk and taxis are readily available on Via Laietana. Duncan is a great resource, always at the ready to help. Cannot say enough wonderful things about this apartment, the perfect place to stay in Barcelona!! Be sure to check out the Collage, the bar behind Vila Vini Teca, Fernando is a master mixologist.
