            Vieques: Budget Villa Rentals (5)

            Recent Vieques Reviews

Doesn't get much better than Casa di Mare`

We had never been to Vieques before and were obviously a little concerned about finding the right house for a group of 4 adults and five kids. All I can say is we made an excellent choice. Phillip and his crew were terrific. They checked in on us as we arrived and made us feel welcome. April, our local contact, was available for all of our questions and concerns. The location is terrific. Its an easy drive from the ferry. We rented jeeps for our stay and there is room for 2 vehicles to park at the house. When you open the modest blue door it will make you smile. A wide open view to the Caribbean that is framed by beautiful flowering shrubs and perfectly placed palms. The open porch is where we spent most of our time. The bedrooms each open up to the porch. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking which we did a lot of. There is a fresh fish market by the ferry. If you have small kids they will love the house. There are a set of stairs that goes down to a rocky beach at the base of the cliff the house sits on. Its not great for hanging out but if you want to let the kids explore its perfect. If you enjoy snorkeling you have a treasure trove of rock formations and little canyons to check out. We saw tons of fish, turtles, puffer fish and rays right from our beach. Awesome! Exploring the island from this location is a breeze. You can easily pick up rt 200 or take the back streets to town by following the shoreline and hop on rt997 and make your way to the beaches in the preserve or check out Esperanza in 20 to 30 mins. Overall just a terrific expereince. TIPS AND FYI....Be prepared for a lot of wild dogs around town. They dont bug you but they will go through your trash. I spent a few times cleaning up trash because they knocked over the trash barrels. We kept the trash inside the compound until we left. All the rooms have air conditioning except for one. It was not a big deal for us because the nights were cool and there are ceiling fans. However, if you are there during hotter months or sensitive to heat keep that in mind. The clothes dryer runs on propane. We ran out of propane on our last day there. It might have been a minor inconvenience if we were staying longer but quite frankly it was a bonus to pack light and have the ability to wash our clothes down there so again not a big deal. Important to say all of our questions/concerns were address immediatly. We loved the house and would 100% go back. Thank you April and Phillip

Visited March 2017. Stayed in 3 bedroom lower level apartment. Property exterior is breathtaking. Location was very convenient to the plaza and small stores as well as the ferry. Pool was clean, water temperature was comfortable. Property inside, very comfortable, not quite luxurious but definitely nice. A/C's all worked, fully stocked kitchen, Wifi, very clean, towels provided. Owner very responsive, property manager, Isabel was amazing, helpful and such a beautiful person. Tips: Plan to travel back to the island before your departure date. I left my ferry ride for the morning of my flight. Bad idea. There was a storm and power outage, there were no ferries that day. I missed my flight. Stressful BUT I must say the generosity of the property owner surpassed my expectations. He did not charge us the additional night for the stay. Buy your ferry tickets in advance - that situation is hectic. The sales window is only open when the ferry is arriving/departing. Locals get priority. Not a very organized system. Allow extra time for travel. Bring an iron, it's the only thing that house didn't have. I definitely recommend this property. Vieques is beautiful and very safe.
