                Great Value in Vieques

                5 of 5
Andrea's house was a great find on our recent trip to Vieques. The house is located on a HUGE lot in a residential neighborhood. Great beach chairs, cooler & umbrella... and plenty of towels. I would definitely return.

We fell in love with this cottage!

                5 of 5
Just returned from a week-long stay at Casa Perlita. We absolutely loved it. The cottage has a large fenced-in yard with coconut palms, a breezy front porch, and every room in the cottage has a high ceiling with a ceiling fan. The windows are louvered, and have unobtrusive bars (painted white - you don't really even notice them) for security, so you can leave the windows open without worrying when you're out at the beach. We didn't turn the AC on even once. The cottage is bright and cheery, and very well cared-for. There were five of us: four adults and one 11 year-old child, and we felt like we had plenty of space. The kitchen is small, but perfectly functional. We cooked most nights and had no problems. The bedrooms are all very comfortable and nicely decorated. There was always plenty of hot water and pretty good water pressure in the shower. The cottage has new beach chairs (thanks!) and some snorkeling equipment. The location of the cottage is great; it's a stone's throw from a pretty little beach with a swimming area perfect for kids due to a natural rock shelf about 20 feet from shore that protects it from waves. Walk down the beach to the East at sunset, and you'll probably see the horses that like to come and go through the sea grape bushes at the beach's edge. There are dogs around - some with collars, some not - but they're all oddly friendly. The local dogs and the horse next door got plenty of treats from my daughter. The neighborhood is pretty quiet - at night, you'll mostly hear the ocean and the tree frogs, but you will also hear local roosters (who are not at all hesitant about crowing well before dawn). It only takes about 5 minutes to drive into Isabel, where you'll find the nearest market, your source for rum, coffee, and non-essential items like food. I highly recommend Yaucono brand coffee - it's good and cheap. There's a fish market next to the ferry dock, but they close sometime around 2:00 PM. Look for huge tarpon in the little harbor. Isabel is less touristy than Esperanza, and has a cute little square and some pretty buildings. Most of the destination beaches are only 15 minutes away. They're all stunning. Head West to Punta Arenas for good snorkeling. The snorkeling's good along the protected side of the jetty (at "starfish beach") also at the West end of the island. Damien and Michele, the property managers, were super friendly and extremely helpful. We would definitely stay at Casa Perlita again. Hopefully soon!
