Great place, close to everything!

5 of 5
This is our 2nd vacation rental, and we won't go back to hotels.... Pepe's place is great! The place has everything you could possibly need... Air conditioners would cool off the room(s) in minutes. Pepe told me that he had the best Internet service in PR, and he wasn't kidding! Very fast.... we really appreciated this, since we liked to go online to search & plan out our events for the next day. He also has a house phone that you can use to call anywhere in PR, and back to the US. FYI, if you have a Verizon or Sprint cell phone, you have service in PR. Location is great too. We flew in to San Juan, and Pepe's place is ~35 minutes away. It's very easy to get to - just off of PR3. There's an Amigo store and a Walgreens across PR3 (a minute away). There's also a Ralph's and a Walmart a few minutes south on PR3, along with the ferry ports to get to Culebra and Vieques. Just north of the resort is a strip of small restaurants (Kioskos de Luquillo) that you have to check out! We've been to Revolution Pizza Shop and Terruno, and would recommend both. One of our favorite restaurants in the area is La Estacion (~20 minutes away, in Fajardo). If you're looking for local food, check out Los Pinos Lechonera. It's best on a weekend (Sat/Sun), and get there before noon if you want to find parking! I've never been concerned about security in PR, but if you are, Silomar is a very secure gated community. There's a guard on duty at all times, to let you in the resort. The resort is also super clean, and has a pool and tennis courts. The house also has a great back yard. If you like to cook outdoors, you'll really like Pepe's set-up - he has a nice Weber grill, a fire pit, and also a wok, all built in! The entire back yard is surrounded by gardens and plants - Pepe has put a lot of work in to this! In addition to the place having everything that we needed, the owner (Pepe) is also a great guy. He came out to personally meet us, and show us around the place. He loves PR, and wants you to enjoy his great island. He is a wealth of knowledge and will tell you anything you need to know. Thanks for letting us stay at your place, and we look forward to staying at your place again next year!

Great Beach Area!

4 of 5
Our family of 5 enjoyed this vacation home located in an area convenient to nice beaches and restaurants. George and Frances were very accommodating and quickly resolved any issues that popped up. We had the unique experience of getting a flat tire in the rain forest (!) and George was kind of enough to accompany us and assist us in getting our tire fixed. It was way above and beyond and very much appreciated! The house itself has plenty of room for a group to spread out and enjoy themselves. The pool and patio area are beautiful and we enjoyed almost every evening out there listening the serenade of the coqui frogs! The rooftop deck was also very nice and provided a beautiful view! We felt very safe in this double-gated neighborhood and would recommend for families that may have concerns about location. The house has some minor maintenance/upkeep issues, but for the most part it functioned well and provided a great home away from home for our stay in Puerto Rico!

Would definitely stay there again, but...

We were very happy with our time at Las Sirenas. The home is in a very safe, gated community, and we found the overall location to be perfect. It is close enough to the airport and San Juan (40-50 minutes) without being an overwhelming distance, and it is also close to El Yunque National Forest and the beaches at Farjardo. We got to the Luquillo beach via a two-minute walk, and the swimming beach was also within walking distance along the picturesque oceanfront. The pool was clean and quiet, and my kids and husband could even play tennis in the compound (although we found that we had to pay $10 to access the courts). The home is also close to a grocery store, pharmacy, gas station and several fast food restaurants and food kiosks (although we never ate in Luquillo). For the most part, the home is very well-equipped. We cooked almost all of our meals there, and the kitchen was well-stocked with cooking equipment and utensils. It would have been helpful to have a few more spices and some tupperware-type containers for food storage. If I were the owner/property manager, I would update the local restaurant menus, home instructions, site-seeing brochures, etc., and I would purchase new pillows. Everything in those areas seemed tired or downright old. Additionally, there were almost no personal supplies as advertised, so we had to buy our own toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo, etc. That said, there was plenty of cleaning fluid, laundry detergent, etc. We also never got the wireless working (although I liked not having wi-fi so that our teens interacted more with the family), and the TV and DVD need more instructions on how to operate the whole system. If you want to play games or watch movies, definitely bring your own. There was one VHS copy of Free Willy, but no other movies that we could find. Same with books: bring your own. The books provided were boxed up in a closet and more than just dog-eared. Lastly, we found that we had to turn on the water supply and flip the electrical circuit switch for the stove. The one time we needed to contact the property manager, Gustavo, he returned our call within two hours, and he was friendly and helpful. All of this is to say that we really liked the home, we especially loved the location, we would stay there again, but we think there need to be a few minor updates to make the place better and a better match to the listing itself.
