We had an excellent stay for a week in december 2014 at Casa Ladeira. When we return to Madeira some time in the future, we would like to return to this house as well.
Very highly recommended if you are looking for peace and quiet and want to stay close to the most beautiful mountain landscapes on the island and far away from the large touristy hotel areas on the southern side of the island.
The view from the terrace (all around the house!) is unbeatable with unlimited views to the sea and the mountains the cultivated terraces and a view from above to the small white village Boaventura (some 2 km - with ups and downs - from the house along the road).
We spend hours just sitting in the comfortable deck chairs on the large sun terrace taking in the views (and a couple of drinks) and licking sun - in December!
Nice easy hikes along levadas in walking distance from the house.
The house was large and very clean and well maintained (seems pretty new build). Bathroom and kitchen was wellfunctioning (only a microwave, not an oven though - but large pans). The house is very spatious with comfortable furniture (the beds were actually better than our own at home :-)).
Gorgeous panorama windows in our two bedrooms and living room. Waking up in the morning with an unlimited view to the mountains from your bed was like sheer balsam to the soul.
Only small (very small) downside was the heating system, which was set to automatically heat during the night (when we actually wanted coolness) and shut down during daytime and evening, when the house turned very cold this time of year. The otherwise very helpful local manager was unable to help us change the setting of the system. But it was only a slight disadvantage, as we could move electric heaters from the sleeping rooms to the living room.
All practicalities and communication with the owner Margret prior to our stay was very friendly, smooth and effective. Our security deposit was returned to our account a few days after our return. Arriving directions were accuate (don't worry, if you can't locate the house on Google Earth or your GPS - just follow the written directions).
Note, that a car is absolutely necessary as the house is located far from shopping areas and public transport is scarce. We were adviced to do shopping at a hypermarket halfway between the aiport and the house - this is very good advice! as you can only buy the most neccessary within 30 min driving distance.
