If you're on the coast, Newport is about as central a place as you can be. And while numerous Embarcadeo owners are offering up their gray-shingled places for rent, Craig and Lisa's home is a MUCH better idea overall (provided you're not the party crowd...)
The home is cut into the bluff overlooking the Newport bayfront literally a block up. The two decks pictured (especially the west deck) allow for a pretty special view of the bay and the bridge - it's easy to take your meal outside and just watch birds, seals/sea lions and boats aplenty.
But once you're inside, the hardwood floors, comfortable furniture, and decor of the place make it feel more like you're in a home-home (rather than a vacation home) Both bedrooms are exactly as captured in the pictures, and as it is an older home, the owners have taken steps to make sure there's storage for your personal belongings (as a converted media cabinet in the master bedroom serves as an additional closet)
Although not a party home, the downstairs has a top-shelf pub setting with a wet bar recessed off a great room featuring a good pool table and dart board. Although I'm no pool expert, I've played enough to know when a table, balls, and cues have been abused - not the case here. Decent 'house cues', a 9-ball rack, & even a flat screen for sports round out the feel. Round out the pub feel with a natural-gas BBQ just outside this room...
It wouldn't be a review without mentioning the potential caveats. Note these are not negatives - rather, things one should be aware of if you're staying in this home. 1) Kitchen - Overall very bright with newer appliances and a solid array of tools/pots/pans for cooking. Do note that you will need to purchase/bring your own basic needs (oil, sugar, flour for instance) if you cook from scratch. Cleaning materials also there (the first home to ever have a dish brush), but bring some extra 13-gallon garbage bags. 2) Bathroom - Like everything else in the home = nice and updated, but be advised there's ONLY one. Plenty of room in there and such (decent sized shower, as well), but with 4 people in the house - it can get busy 3) Parking - On the street outside the home, but for suburb folk used to secured garage/d-way parking - do know you may be challenging hordes of Newport tourists forced to park 'up the hill' from the bayfront (at night, though... never a problem)
A great week overall in a rock-solid place the owners clearly have pride in; thanks again!
