          A Step Back in Time

          5 of 5
We spent a week in Cape Breton to enjoy Celtic Colours and the changing colours everywhere. Maggie's was the perfect place. We fell in love with its charm and warmth. Uli and Cathy were wonderful hosts and welcomed us with a bowl full of freshly picked apples, a warm and delicious baked apple pie and a crackling fire. All week long, we felt like we had stepped back in time when life was simple. Maggie's felt like home. She protected us when Hurricane Matthew hit the island with winds over 100 km. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The only negative thing I could say is the sad feeling we had when it was time to leave her and head back home. We hope we can come "home" to Maggie's again someday.

Lovely, peaceful stay on a beautiful property

My husband and I along with our three young ones (6,4, and 2) had a very nice stay at Roger and Sandra's house on Cape Breton Island. Roger was very helpful throughout our short stay. The nearby beach was an easy walk and we had it all to ourselves every time we went. We found crabs in the water and the kids played in the sand. We walked on a trail in the back of the property on a "moose hunt." Did not see any moose, but lots of evidence that they were around! We also drove the Cabot Trail and did the bird island tour (which was great-- saw lots of bald eagles and seals, but only a few puffins since it was a bad time of year for them). The house was very well put together with a lot of history on display inside. I did worry a little about the kids breaking things, but we made it through without any issues. Beautiful view of the sunset and sunrise as well as the stars from the back deck.

          The property was absolutely beautiful!

This charming old farm house is very clean and comfortable. Everything we needed to set up housekeeping was provided all we needed was food and drink. The view on a clear day is amazing. Our stay was very early in June, the apple trees and other blossoming trees were in full blossom and the Lilacs were ready to pop. Our weather wasn't perfect but it was nice enough. The owner, Richard was very accommodating and helpful. The weather was cool, so he brought us an additional heater to keep us cozy. We wanted to have a campfire but it was too cool to go down to the beach. Richard brought us fire wood and kindling and picked a spot on the lawn for us to have the fire. He also provided an extra large pot for us to boil lobster in and even pointed us in the right direction to obtain fresh lobster from the dock. We would stay here again and highly recommend it.
