                Sweet little cottage

                4 of 5
We really enjoyed our 2 nights at the Gatehouse. It was comfortable and cozy and had everything we needed. Baddeck was actually a bit of a busy town so we were happy to be a few minutes just outside. Still close enough to walk. It was quiet for sleeping. We loved the apple trees out the back window.

                Beyond our expectations

                5 of 5
We arrived with my parents, our son and infant daughter, and our nephews not quite knowing what to expect as it was a new rental. We were pleasantly surprised by the size and cleanliness of this rental. There was more than enough room! The cottage has obviously been around for a good amount of time but has been well loved, well-maintained and updated in the necessary areas. There is new carpet throughout, a new master ensuite and the large, well supplied kitchen came in handy. You literally only need to show up with your clothes and food! Everything necessary for cooking and baking is there. Towels, sheets and blankets are also supplied. The games and fireplace became fan favourites and the views were stunning. Zone heating in each room during the damp, rainy nights also made it extremely comfortable. The cottage is very private and secluded...perfect for our brood and the lady who the owners have overseeing the cottage, Irene, was very eager to please and helpful. The only downfall was that the dock was in need of some repair, but will be completed. We were still able to fish from the property and Irene allowed for us to launch the boat, and offered to allow us to take the kids swimming, from her side. We have already scheduled another week in August and are looking at booking two weeks for next summer. Would be easy to spend a whole summer there. We were more than happy with this find!

Good view from barebones but functional cottage

                4 of 5
My husband and I stayed in BayCroft Cottage for a week. The photos on VRBO are mostly accurate (Since they were taken, a hot tub replaced two of the Adirondack chairs on the deck. And the dining table we had seated 4.). The view of the water is good and as pictured. This cottage was plenty roomy for us. Sleep quality was excellent as the location is very quiet and the mattress on the larger bed is very good. The shower was nice, too. There is nothing fancy about this cottage at all. Everything is clean and functional, but totally low-end in terms of cost, e.g. Linoleum, countertops, refrigerator, microwave. In fact the microwave is so low-end that it is only 550 watts, which makes it only marginally useful. The one big deficit in this cottage is the lack of decent pots and pans and other kitchen supplies. There were two frying pans -- one very small and one that was truly wrecked and terminally greasy. Only two real mugs. No pot holders. Really, I rated this property as a "4" rather than a "5" based primarily on the furnishing of the kitchen. Beware if it is your intention to cook real meals in this kitchen. You should also know that the lake access at the bottom of the driveway (and across the road) does not include a dock. You simply have to scramble over some small boulders to get to the water.
