                            Comfortable Camping

                            5 of 5
Running Squirrel Ridge was everything we expected. Our trip was a last minute, spontaneous weekend adventure so we were fortunate enough to book the cabin only one day before our arrival. We arrived at the property around midnight, and surprisingly, the road that leads to the property wasn't as bad as we expected---even with a 16 foot canoe hanging out of the bed of our truck, we made it up just fine. The cabin was very comfortable. My husband and I slept in the bedroom while our 3 children slept in the loft. The three blow-up mattresses in the loft had holes in them, but we brought our own along with sleeping bags. The bathroom had everything we needed as far as toiletries and towels. We brought our own towels for when we visited the lake. My husband is a fairly big guy but he wasn't bothered by the size of the shower. The kitchen was fully stocked, and even had food left behind by previous guests. We brought our own food, but found that the cabinets were full of spices, and some other ingredients we were able to use. We thought it fitting to replenish what we used, and we even left some coffee behind for future guests. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the picnic table outside. In the evening, we spent most of our time by the firepit roasting hotdogs, and marshmallows for smores, stargazing, and catching fireflies. The kids took advantage of the swing just at the top of the hill, and my husband and I enjoyed the bench swing. We loved that hilly area and even walked the tiny trail just behind it. We spent a few hours at the lake and even stopped at the old country store for some firewood and ice cream. It was a great convenience for picking up milk and eggs too. And the kids enjoyed the animal heads, hornets nests, and snake skins up on the walls. We enjoy camping and being outdoors, but I do not like sleeping in tents. So having the cabin, fully furnished, made the trip fun AND comfortable. I would definitely recommend this property, and we are looking forward to visiting again.
