                        Recent Cedar Island Reviews

A true "vacation" spot, fresh and clean inside

                        5 of 5
The end of 2016 was so stressful that in January 2017 I sent my son on vacation for a little solo "rest and relaxation" time away from it all. An Outer Banks location seemed like a good idea, but the choices were so varied it was difficult to make a decision just looking on line. Then it turned out that many of the beach houses are closed in the winter. Finally, I chose Cedar Island House as his retreat. The house looks great in pics and on the map, but I chose it in most part because the owner was so congenial. It was a fantastic choice; I couldn't have been more relieved with how relaxing his vacation turned out to be. He drove far enough to make it highly unlikely that anybody would go bother him. On the other hand, there was cell service and internet so he could reach out and he could be as available as he wanted or needed to be. He has allergies to pet dander and mold, but nothing in the house caused him any trouble. And he successfully managed to de-stress. He sat on the deck and watched the water. He sent snapshots of the sunrise and the sunset both. He watched the tides and the birds and the weather change. He walked far far far along the deserted beach and collected treasures. He cooked himself little gourmet meals and soaked in the Jacuzzi. I'm next, and I can hardly wait. I'm bringing the fishing poles and the kayaks! Thanks for a fantastic house, great communication, and the opportunity those two things provided to finally allow for some much needed rest.

                        The House at Styron Creek

                        5 of 5
Great place to see sunrise and sunset at the outer banks. House has all the amenities to make your stay a complete vacation. Quiet and secluded yet easy to access. Short drive to the ferry for Cape Lookout, Cedar Island ferry or a day trip to Beaufort and Morehead.

Nice, well-maintained home. Beautiful views. Convenient dock.

                        5 of 5
The house is in a tiny town and the area is very quiet and peaceful. There's a small restaurant within walking distance, but we cooked all our meals. We came to relax, fish, and collect shells. We visited two of the barrier islands which were mostly devoid of people (yay!) and had lots of wildlife. The dock is close to the house, making it super-convenient to jump in to go fishing/shelling without the whole production of driving to a public dock every time we wanted to use the boat. The public dock is about a mile away, so it's a quick trip to put the boat in the first day. There's a fish-cleaning station and a bench at the end of the dock. Be aware that the boat lift isn't available for use and there's no power available on the dock. We brought a long extension cord to charge the trolling motor battery. There's a big table under the house where we could set up our fishing equipment. The house was well-maintained and clean. I was surprised (and pleased) to find all the basic necessities like hand, dish, and laundry soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and a nice array of spices. There's a Dollar General close by if you forget anything. I stopped in to replace the box of microwave popcorn I used and found DG even had a decent selection of cold groceries. The furniture, including the bed in the master bedroom, was clean and comfortable. The mattress makes loud noises when moving. I didn't look, but I'm guessing the culprit was a mattress cover. Once we settled in, it was comfortable and we slept well. The linens were nice and clean. The screened porch was one of the reasons I chose this house and it did not disappoint. It's big enough to comfortably hold the picnic table and lots of chairs. We watched the sunset out there almost every night. The water pressure is good. The water feels soft and I'm pretty sure I heard a water softener system running. The water from the fridge dispenser tasted great. The WiFi was fast enough for surfing and email. I didn't try to stream video. We had a few minor issues, a beeping smoke detector (found a battery in drawer to replace it) and a tv failure (there was a second tv), but these were things that can happen in any home. The owner was very friendly and responsive to questions before and during our stay. We received our deposit within a few days of returning home. We had a wonderful time. We would stay here again and would recommend it to family and friends.
