This place is a true diamond. being on the water, having a fire. This was the perfect place to spend our anniversary from SEPTEMBER 15-18th. The neighbors were awesome, time to the small towns are great. We were able to pick up everything we needed. The cabin was roomie. AND JUST WARM, the wood on the inside is so pretty.. we loved this little cabin... we shall return :) Crystal&Tim

                  Perfect weekend getaway!!

                  5 of 5
Burtt Sweet was a wonderful host during our stay. He showed us around town and made my friends and I feel right at home. The property itself was wonderful. A quaint but very homey lodge. The proximity near the river provided us with amazing views of the boats and cargo ships, as well as, breathtaking sunsets every night. I would highly recommend this stay to anyone looking for a relaxed retreat away from home. I def plan on visiting the area again next summer.

Great location for a family get-together

                  4 of 5
We spent a week here with both the house and the cabin and 12 people. The property is surrounded by water on three sides so there's some separation between it and the other properties, and the neighbors across the narrow channel behind are very quiet. The cabin is sunny and well placed. The house has a very nice deck overlooking the water and the charcoal grills and fire pits are great. The water is shallow and weedy for some distance but you can get a 20' boat to the dock without a problem. The water right around the property is protected and calm even when it's windy, and there's a shallow wading area with a beach that would delight a toddler for hours. The house has good accessibility with just a couple of steps to a first floor that has a bedroom, kitchen, bath, and deck all on the same level. Both the house and the cabin are right on the water with spectacular sunset views. Nearby attractions on the water include Cedar Island state park, Singer Castle (watch the water conditions), and a creek that you can paddle up for several miles. We saw loons, bald eagles, beavers, and many other kinds of wildlife. Brockville and Kingston Ontario are each about an hour away and make nice day trips. We didn't do a lot on the New York side. Alexandria Bay is like a northern version of downtown Key West, with streetside bars and trashy T-shirt shops. From there, you can do boat tours on the river or to Boldt Castle. I hear there are other attractions in Clayton. There's an excellent PriceChopper supermarket about 20 minutes away so you can load up on supplies. There's a marina less than a quarter mile away and boat rentals at several nearby places. This section of the river has a lot of unmarked rocks and shoals so the GPS available on larger boat rentals is highly recommended. Morning and evening the water's generally calm but in the middle of the day, the water in the bay can have frequent whitecaps (manageable for sea kayaks and canoeists with big-water experience), and the main river can be too rough even for a 20' pontoon depending on the wind direction. Like a lot of vacation places, these have been modified repeatedly with varying degrees of success and the main house is a little tight. There are several pinch points like where the washroom, bedroom, stairs, entry, and kitchen all come together in the same spot. Still if the weather's good you're going to spend most of your time on the deck or outside anyway.
