Great Country Family Retreat

5 of 5
This was our first homeaway experience so I was a little apprehensive about checking out with Michael off the homeaway site. Let me assure you! He's friendly, honest, available when needed, and also hands off for a totally private country retreat experience. (He has a very friendly mind his own business maintenance man that we saw only twice the whole time who came to add firewood to the outside pile). Also full deposit immediately refunded day of checkout. We are a young family of boys and my kids loved the pond, jumping off the raft (bring life jackets or floaties for kids for extra peace of mind), and kite flying in the fields. There are great woods as well so bring some long pants and bug spray for exploring too. Cottage has a great eat in kitchen, 2 bedrooms for privacy for adults and an open spacious immaculate hardwood loft that goes across the whole length of the cottage, great for indoor games or to put the kids to bed in sleeping bags etc. We also roasted marshmallows in the fire pit and ate right in front of the house on a picnic table. Great peaceful country cottage experience that makes you feel connected to nature and the great outdoors. Walmart and shoprite close by for last minute stuff and civilization. Great and relaxing time for us all! Looking forward to returning!!

Perfect Vacation

5 of 5
This is definitely the perfect place if you want to get away from it all and relax. My wife and three boys spent most of our week floating in the beautiful never sink river. We saw an overwhelming amount of wildlife without ever having to leave the front yard. The pictures really don’t do this place justice. The house had everything we needed to be comfortable and lots of nice extras like a large back deck and multiple grills to cook meals outdoors. We were a little concerned about there not being a washer and dryer in the house but, this wasn’t a problem. In nearby Port Jervis, there is a really nice Laundromat with new equipment. There were also plenty of restaurants and grocery stores within a short drive as well as parks and local attractions. Frank and Jane were made us feel at home during our stay and we hope we can come back again.

Lovely Hideaway

5 of 5
I should have written this last summer (2015) when I stayed at the cottage for 7 weeks. Charming. Comfortable. Quiet. Bright and cheery. Clean. Nice size kitchen, well-equipped for cooking full-size meals. Loved watching the birds at the feeder--hummingbirds, a wren, goldfinches, etc--and a pesky squirrel that hung upside down from the wire to get the food. English garden surrounded by forest. Feeling of seclusion even with nearby neighbors. Comfortable queen bed. Washer and dryer, a bennie for travelers. Lake Superior, about a ten minute drive, was my favorite swimming hole--and they rent rowboats. Well-located for restaurants and an ice cream shop (Kauneonga Lake). A small market and a gas station about 1 mile from cottage. Very close to Bethel Woods. Supermarket in Monticello and Liberty. Lots of local color. Lots of interesting roads for jaunts in the countryside. I used the cottage as a retreat for writing. Good place to work. Owner was friendly, accommodating and easy to reach. I was sorry to leave. (BTW, I actually arrived July 6, 2015, but I couldn't enter that date.)
