My husband and I, along with our dog, had a wonderful time. The house is modern, full of light, has great views from almost every room, and has everything you need for the stay (including those little things which you never are sure will be there but don't necessarily want to bother the owner asking about like dishwashing fluid, cooking spices, silver foil, garbage bags, etc). The property itself is situated on a bay, with no immediate neighbors that you can see as you gaze out at the lake. The lake near the shore has a sandy bottom and is calm, clear and quite shallow, which is really nice if you just like to wade in the water. While we did see a few motorboats during the labor day weekend, none of them came near the bay, and during the week the lake was very quiet. The location is a bit away from it all--make sure you bring lots of food unless you want to either drive to Pittsfield (30 min) to a grocery store, or Dannemora (15 min) to a convenience station. If you like to keep active and not just sit by the lake, I also suggest planning out some trips ahead of time (the owner had some great maps of the Adirondacks, but no other information for nearby activities or specific hikes/trailheads). I would especially recommend a hike up to Silver Lake Mountain (only 2 miles RT, but we sure got winded and had to thread slowly among the rocks), along with more gentle hikes to Silver Lake Bog and Bluffs [both about 35 min south, you can find details online]. Point Au Roche State Park (about 45 min NE) is also quite nice, with many forested trails along with great views of Lake Champlain. While we didn't take advantage of them, there are also several ferries between NY and VT, which is a nice, inexpensive way to take in Lake Champlain. I would highly recommend this property!

            Paradise found!

            5 of 5
What an incredible week we had at Lakeside Cottage! It is the perfect family get away…ideal for energetic kids with a mowed meadow large enough for lots of activity…the dock/swimming raft were perfect for fishing, lazing in the sun…we kayaked, and canoed/rowed…lots more fishing…campfires…inviting Adk. chairs and rockers…gazing at the beautiful lake and mountain vista. The grounds were incredible! The cottage had all the amenities of home and more…off the grid…so comfortable with all the sleeping areas to choose from…the sleeping porches were incredible…get away from the bugs (yes, they were a bit brutal at times)…but, had so many options with the numerous porches to lounge…reading, games, listening to the many birds and the haunting but beautiful call of the loons to fall asleep by! Just glorious! Make sure you bring enough food…books, etc…you won't want to leave…it's the perfect get away…rejuvenation…laying on the hammock gazing at the water through the birches…enjoying the breeze…it has so much to offer for everyone! We hit the lotto on this cottage and all its' offerings…paradise found!

            Serene Adirondack Vacation

            4 of 5
We have spent two week-long family vacations at Kilborn Lodge, and enjoyed every minute of our time there. Both times, we vacationed with another family- a total of 11 people (4 adults and 7 children, ages 7-14). The lodge was very rustic, clean, and spacious. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, cookware and utensil, and there is a spacious dining room with a large table for seating up to 12-14. We cooked dinner every night, and had fun playing board games after dinner. The living room is comfortable for 5-6 people sitting comfortably in front of a beautiful stone fireplace. On cooler nights we had warm/cozy fires with lots of great conversation. We ended up bringing a small flat screen tv and DVD player to watch movies at night, and it was great to have on really rainy days. Generally, though, the weather was sunny and warm. The nights can get a little cool in August, so I would recommend packing warm sleepwear. The beds were very comfortable, and provided us with great rest at night. There are not enough words to describe the beauty of this lake frontage on Indian Lake. The dock is great for fishing, enjoying the sun, and swimming. The lake has a nice sandy bottom with a gradual walk into the deeper water. The sunsets are gorgeous, with the Loons calling eachother in the background. There is a nice firepit, and plenty of grassy yard to run around in. When not enjoying this spectacular setting, we enjoyed hiking to local waterfalls, bike riding, and heading into Malone for some adventures in the town. In town there is a great old-fashioned burger joint with yummy ice cream. We also enjoyed going to the used book store which is more like a book warehouse. If you need batteries, sunscreen, etc there is a well stocked grocery store in town, and a Walmart on the outskirts. We will definitely be going back to Kilborn Lodge! You cannot go wrong by spending your well-deserved vacation there!
