We rented this property in August of 2015 for a family reunion/50th anniversary celebration. We had adults up to the age of 80 and children ranging from two to 16. We had an absolutely wonderful trip! Beautiful weather and fantastic amenities.
The House. It is beautiful. Wonderful period details with all the modern conveniences, including air conditioning. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were super spacious. There were PLENTY of sheets and towels. We had 20 people and we NEVER ran out of towels! The room set ups were perfect for our group. Each adult pairing got their own room and then the kids shared other rooms depending on ages. If you are short a mattress in a room - they have an entire storage area filled with new mattresses - almost like a mattress store. Most of the rooms have TVs, which I know you aren't supposed to use on vacation - but when you have a cranky toddler who just needs his Paw Patrol fix its a godsend to have a TV in almost every bedroom. The downstairs entertainment room has beautiful leather reclining furniture that was so comfortable the kids wanted to sleep there. The kitchen is well equipped for normal use.
The Outdoors. We had some novice swimmers and non swimmers in the group and they were very comfortable jumping off and swimming around the pier (weaker swimmers wore life jackets). The interior of the "boat slip" was very calm and we used the area to give the younger kids kayak lessons which they loved. The dock is spacious and the furniture provided down there was super comfortable. The furniture on the porch was incredibly comfortable and someone was probably sitting out there from dawn to well past midnight every day. The views are spectacular!! One of the unexpected joys of renting the house was the ferry boats that passed in front of the house. They would drive by and give a brief toot of their horn - nothing obnoxious or obtrusive. It delighted the kids and added to the nostalgia of renting this beautiful home.
Location. The house is right next to the Sagamore but you really don't notice it (other than getting to see their beautiful old boat The Morgan and their smaller picnic boats drive by). We walked to the sagamore a few times for dinner, lunch and cocktails. The location was also perfect for teens and Tweens because they could walk to town for pizza/ice cream. The house is Very close to grocery stores, delis, wine stores. Quick trip to Lake George for go-karts, golf etc.
