                Beautiful property, very comfortable.

Lovely old home that is spacious and commodious, with a large pretty yard. The house was thoughtfully set up and we'll equipped by the owners, with artwork and decor that we enjoyed very much. We rented this to be close by for our son's wedding in Hancock, and were very comfortable. We were aware that there was lake access, but had NO IDEA how gorgeous the setting was. Wish we had had more time to enjoy the lovely secluded waterfront deck, but it was a perfect setting in which to enjoy our morning coffee! Highly recommend this home.

Happy wife, happy dogs. Happy man.

We wanted to get our city dogs out to the country where they could be off leash. This being the last house on the road helped us to feel comfortable letting the dogs run. We _loved_ sitting in front of the outdoor fireplace throwing the ball for the dogs. Very surprised that there were very few (almost no) horse flies or mosquitos. We used the charcoal bbq for dinners but mostly went to the local diner (FlipSide) for breakfasts. This summer had very hot and humid moments but the AC kept the house cool. Keene is a very nice small city with a welcoming main street with reasonable restaurants, a co-op, theatre, and my wife especially enjoyed the 2nd hand shops for vintage clothing. We are looking into returning during the foliage.

                Nice Old Farmhouse

                4 of 5
We had a nice short stay at the farmhouse. It was impeccably clean. The kitchen was very nice. The house was very old and as such had uneven floors and walls (only important if you have a new little walker or elderly in your party). The bathrooms were VERY small, but adequate and again, very clean. Many thoughtful touches throughout. The beds were quite comfortable. We drove into Boston for the day to see the historic sites. We went on a Sunday so the traffic wasn't too bad. It was however still a bit of a drive but one that is possible. My only complaints about the house were 1) The entry area near the kitchen (presumably a mud room) smelled off (kind of like old garbage). The area was not dirty, so I don't know if a previous guest had sent a bag of garbage that had leaked, or maybe just that it is an old house? 2) The master bedroom had a smell of urine...quite possibly an animal had gone outside, but the smell was rather strong. I looked for any evidence of animals inside but found none. An air freshener we had brought covered the smell. This may not be a problem during your stay. 3) The bedrooms were poorly lit. 4) I didn't like having to make up the beds before using them. This is a personal preference on my part. We had driven over 12 hrs. with 5 children when we arrived. Wrestling with duvet covers and sheets was not what I wanted to be doing. However, it was nice to know that the bedding was clean. The owner was easy to work with and promptly refunded our deposit. Overall, very pleased. We appreciated the quirks that come with an older home, and thought that the updates were nice. Last note...if you have very small children (under 5) please note that the steps leading upstairs are steeper than typical and going down them would be difficult for a child in the middle of the night. (I was concerned about our youngest possibly falling if he was looking for a restroom in the middle of the night).
