This lovely and spacious houseboat is a perfect place to stay in Amsterdam. On a quiet side street, but just steps from several tram lines (and 10 minutes by tram from Centraal Station), it provides easy access to the main tourist sites, including the museums and Anne Frank house. It is more spacious than you would imagine for a houseboat, with a large contiguous living room and kitchen, plus two bedrooms and a deck (and a goose on a nest with eggs next to the deck!). It was very comfortable for our family of four.
The owner Barbara is very gracious and accommodating. Before our arrival she gave us perfect directions and was flexible in meeting us when we arrived. She left us a charming welcome basket and provided directions to nearby markets and restaurants. She even dropped off drawing paper after my children noticed the crayons and colored pencils (and a variety of other toys as well). It is really ideal for a family with young children (ours are 6 and 9), though it would certainly work for other groups as well.
Asked their favorite part of our trip to London, Brussels, and Amsterdam, my kids both agreed that the houseboat was the highlight. I recommend this with enthusiasm.
