The house is near the small village og Stavoren. There you can do your groceries in a supermarket called KOOP. It is a long trip to Amsterdam and to Keukenhof but it is worth it. Vi took the car to Lelystad and from there the train to Amsterdam.

It is a great location, we also had the luck of having fantastic weather. We rented a 'sloep' (diesel powered tender boat) for the duration of the holidays via Ottenhome Heeg and explored the area via the many lakes and waterways. The kids loved it and were in and out of the boat all the time. They also loved swimming in the 'beach' area of the village of Heeg which is just outside/next to the 'Pharshoeke' and provides for a lovely play and swim area were boats are not allowed. It is shallow water almost all the way to the markers and because you have an unobstructed view of the kids, very safe! Our oldest daughter (8 yrs) also enjoyed 3 days of sailing lessons in an 'Optmist'. Having no sailing experience at all and only after 3 half days of lessons with Ben (fabulous teacher) from 'hart voor Water' sailing school, enabled her to sail on her own (supervised) around the 'Heeger Meer' (Heeger Lake). This really made her grin from ear to ear, and for any daddy priceless! The Staff at the Pharshoeke are very friendly and helpful and the location just is ideal to explore the lovely villages and towns of Friesland which are no further than 30 minutes away at the most, either by bike or car. Not many English tourist around, since the area is heavily promoted/focused on Dutch and German tourism. I would say just this The english would love it as well and the Dutch Tourist Board / Belvilla should look at the English Market as well...
