5 years and counting! Our favorite Winter Retreat!

                              5 of 5
I have made 5 years of some of the most magical memories at the Bear Creek Lodge. Me and Crew (on average 14-16 folks) travel up each January for a time of reflection, rest, mild debauchery, drinks, laughter, board games, excellent food and fellowship. Each year, we come back more refreshed than the previous year and moreover our bonds of friendship strengthens. All of this happens in the backdrop of the charming property. Sitting on over 100 acres, the spacious lodge boasts of 7 themed rooms, although the house could probably sleep up to 20 folks comfortably. While we loved the old furniture they had in 2015, they've updated the couches in the Great Room (where we've had many a long talk or an awesome game of Mafia (Clue without the board game) in front of the huge fire place) and added a big screen television equipped with Direct TV. It was easy to plug our gaming system in to play games and watch movies. The other thing I really love about the space is that no matter how many folks you travel with, you won't bump into each other. There's plenty of room including their gorgeous pool room where games of pool while simultaneously watching old movies went down nightly. The kitchen has two stoves and there are two refrigerators. In the winter, we put all of our soda and water on the back porch. There are enough pots, pans, and dishware to service a small army. Plenty of blankets and extra supplies (toilet paper/paper towels/cleaning supplies) make it easy to just bring clothes to lounge in and not worry about anything. I spent a great deal of time chilling in the kitchen area cooking for our group and catching up with the women on the trip. There's comfortable new wicker furniture in the nook and sturdy bar stools to make the kitchen a dope area to hang in as well. Michael, the owner, is a quick phone call or email away and there are property managers in the area to meet our needs should something come up (in 5 years, we've never had to phone them for an emergency as they provide you with a ton of info that makes it easy to navigate the home and the general community we're settled in). In the summer, we've enjoyed bonfires and had to only take a short road trip (45 minutes) in Mio for canoeing at Hinchman Acres. It's truly a home away from home and has become a very special tradition that we hope to carry on as long as the house remains opened to guests. You're going to love this space. Wonderful Family Get a Way

What a wonderful home away from home. We had all 11 members of our family stay at this beautiful home on the river . From here we traveled around northern Michigan and returned "home" to a very comfortable and well equipped resting place. We enjoyed the river, playing pool, ping pong, cards, roasting marshmallows over the fire. We hope to return again.

                              Awesome place!

It's always a crap shoot when you book something online. You're relying upon the photos and reviews of others to guide you. Well let me tell you, the photos posted don't do it justice. It was an absolutely fabulous location. We had 20 people for a regional association meeting. Most of us spent the night. As we were individuals, not couples, we really needed extra beds but made do with a couple of the hearty guys pitching tents in the yard. The kitchen was well stocked; we cooked many meals there and found almost everything. We did not venture out except to ride our mountain bikes at Hanson Hills Rec Area. The deck and yard were perfect for our meetings as was the living room. The dining room accommodated almost everyone. The only thing I'd like to tell you, future vacationer, is to NOT follow Google Maps to this location. I'm from Northern Michigan so I can get myself to Grayling without GPS, so I turned it on once in Grayling to make sure I located the lodge. McMasters Bridge Rd is one of those that has duplicate #'s as there's a North & South.... but only the North shows up on Google Maps, even though it says it's South. So I drove around in circles, finally seeking out a little party store on Down River Rd. Do NOT take Down River Rd to get to McMasters Bridge Rd unless you are coming from the North. Stay on M-72 until you can turn left onto McMasters Bridge Rd and the lodge is obvious just before you cross the AuSable River. I personally picked out this place for our group. A bit nervous as I arrived Saturday morning for our meeting; but was given the thumbs up by everyone and even a little round of applause for having chosen such a great location. It's just beautiful. Oh.... we stayed in the lodge. We did not experience the cabins, but I'm sure they are just as nice. Same views as provided by the lodge as they are steps away.
