My husband and I stayed for 3 nights and fell in love with this this property and with South Haven. Barb was fantastic from the beginning, communicating quickly and she really thought of every detail. When we arrived there was a nice bottle of MI wine and 2 of the most delicious muffins, which made us feel very welcomed. The apartment is very well stocked with everything you could possibly need and Barb even had a bag of ice in the freezer at arrival. Everything was clean, neat and decorated very tastefully. The property grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. There are porches with tables and chairs in the front and in the back, a nice grill and plenty of seating around the grilling area. The property is on a quiet residential street and we felt very safe, even at night walking to the water and into town for dinner and drinks.
The beach is only a few blocks away and we were able to walk down every night to watch the sun set. There is a stunning pier and lighthouse that you can walk down to enjoy the water and sunsets (highly recommend).
A few blocks in the opposite direction is a quaint downtown area with lots of local little shops, antiques, cafes and restaurants. Other than a little rain on our last day we were able to walk downtown everyday. Being that we went in October the weather was cooler and the trees changing their leaves were gorgeous and made our walks even more enjoyable.
About the area: We were both pleasantly surprised at how affordable it was, not at all over priced like you would think of a "tourist spot". It never felt like a high traffic heavy tourism location, but instead very laid back with super nice people. On our rainy day we decided to go to the movie theater and were shocked when we got 2 tickets, a large popcorn and 2 large drinks for $14! YES, $14 for everything! A few places we ate and would recommend were The Black Tavern, The Thirsty Perch, Venezia Pizza and The Taste. If you like donuts/baked goods The Golden Brown Bakery has plenty to choose from and everything is baked fresh nightly. The Channel Wine Bar was fantastic and attached to it is a place called Tipsy Brush Studio, where you can sign up for a class and paint canvas art. We signed up for an evening class ($35 each for us to paint our own canvas) and we had such a blast!
Every year we try to have a 3 night mini vacation just the two of us (kiddo free) and hands down this was the BEST one yet! We will be returning again!
