Best place for a large gathering

            5 of 5
The house was absolutely perfect for our annual gathering of 4 families (8 adults, 10 kids). We had more than enough beds for everyone and owner provided linens and pretty nice towels. Basement was dim and humid but the owner had two dehumidifiers that kept it reasonably comfortable. AC worked great for the rest of the house. At least three indoor common areas to play games or just chat and a nice patio area outside as well. There's a sauna and jacuzzi available for extra charge which we did not take advantage of this time. The grounds are huge; lots of space for kids to run around. Kitchen has large island AND peninsula for plenty of counter space plus a 6 burner Thermador range with two ovens. We fit all 18 people around the massive and gorgeous woodworked dining room table for meals. The house was clean and has character. Not the most toddler-proofed house as some of the knicks-knacks may need to be moved higher if you have toddlers that get their hands on things easily or just increase supervision a tad. Communication with the owner David was terrific and he was respectful of the privacy of our gathering while being super hospitable. Thanks, David, for the wonderful stay.

            Perfect getaway

            5 of 5
I had a feeling this place would be a winner but it surpassed my expectations. The spot is rural, quiet, nicely wooded, very pleasant and beautiful in a simple sort of way. The caretaker who let us in and showed us around was very friendly and relaxed, and he offered to bring us firewood on demand and invited us to pick the ripe produce in the garden! Somewhere on the description they claim to have "basically everything you need" in terms of amenities, and that is no exaggeration; there is a conventional coffee maker and a kureg, with filters and coffee into the bargain. Beds were well made and towels hung in the bathroom, and there's a fully stocked linen closet and a variety of bath gel, shampoo, and conditioner in little personal bottles. The house itself certainly is "charming" in the seemingly very well maintained unembellished antique craftsmanship of the building. It's cozy but there's plenty of space, and for our group of 8 who were traveling from various places for a wedding nearby it was highly conducive to spontaneous socializing and coordinating, while never feeling crowded. Owing to the nature of our trip we didn't get a chance to take full advantage of the deep relaxation and plentiful amusements (horseshoe, board games, movies, a great library, a wide open field to frolic in) available to us at this place, but it did suit our needs. We didn't get a great sense of what the immediate area had to offer because the wedding was in Michigan City. The nearby Hesston Diners Club looked very promising, if perhaps a little rich for our budgets (but in a totally non-pretentious kind of way). Dining out doesn't seem all that important here since the kitchen has all you need and is relatively spacious for a cozy little house. I'm pretty sure there are wine tastings and blueberry farms around too, but you can look into that yourself. beaches are 20-30 minutes by car (sorry if we left sand!). I think this house would be an ideal place to spend serious quality time with friends and/or family. It seems to be designed for that in a very thoughtful loving manner. The place is very clean, so much so that i almost wished for more of that old building smell tbh, but the old timey character is preserved in all the places you would reasonably want it, while the caretaker and owners have tended to all the details of modern living.

Huge yard, lots of space good location

            4 of 5
In summary, I would recommend this location! We had 4 adults and 5 kids in our group. The size of the home and the size of the yard was perfect! We were never right on top of each other while in the house, and we spent tons of time in the yard playing multiple yard games (that we brought) at the same time, we even cracked out a game of whiffle ball! The fire pit was great as well!! We used this every night! We rented this home with the intention of spending our beach time at Warren Dunes (as we had the previous 4 years of visiting this area), however to our surprise this home had a pass to a private beach area that we loved!! We never even went to Warren Dunes this year! There were a couple minor downsides to this home...but that is just me picking at it for the help of future renters. This house only had 1 queen sized bed. The remaining 3 beds (all in seperate rooms) were doubles. That size was fine for the kids to share, however not ideal for an adult couple to share. I would suggest to the owners to upgrade the bedroom at the top of the stairs with another queen since this house holds so many, I am sure it gets rented by 2 families a lot. Another issue we discovered is that all of the pans were warped. Though this sounds was not conducive to making eggs in the mornings. Trust doesn't work! We ended up hard boiling all of our eggs just so we could still eat them for breakfast. As mentioned, this is a good rental property! We would consider renting again!
