This rental was everything I had hoped. I have been visiting Nantucket off and on for over 35 years, but have never had the chance to spend more than a night or two. It was wonderful to stay in such a clean, quiet, well laid out home, but also be able to get to everything on the island easily. In the past I have always stayed in town; being in this rental let me imagine being a resident of the island (of course I'd have to come back in February some time to really get a feel for that ;).
I visited with 4 friends (2 couples) and a dog and there was plenty of room for everyone. The outdoor shower was perfect for coming back from the beach. The kitchen was open for cooking and provided easy access for dining on the deck. Basics like sugar and salt which are sometimes found in rentals were not here, so plan accordingly when you go shopping. Lovely pine flooring! We had no trouble staying cool on some very hot days. The upstairs shower drained slowly, but that is my only quibble. The yard is large and the house is at the end of a dead end road so you feel very private. A clothes line would be a great addition :)
Most of us biked and had no trouble getting everywhere, but our one friend (with the dog) who relied on the bus did have some issues. If you are not comfortable riding 5 or so miles on a bike, or have small children, you may want to bring a car. That said, if you plan to just relax at the house and visit the nearby Surfside beach, it is very walkable. There is also a small ice cream shop in walking distance, a wine/beer store, and a bike rental shop. The out of town Stop and Shop (and the Downey Flake ;) is about 1.5 miles away.
Luck was a wonderful host, answering all emails promptly, checking to see we were situated upon arriving, quickly returning the security deposit, and even dropping off one of my friends at the ferry.
Nantucket is a gorgeous island. I've traveled to a fair number of places around the world and still think I am very lucky to live near such a unique and beautiful spot.
