The house is beautiful. The open plan and modern (but funky old) style are wonderful for a vacation home. There are many huge windows in the giant common space that let in gorgeous light and enable you to see the trees and sky outside, yet are situated high enough in the walls that people outside- not that there are many - cannot see in and you have privacy.
The finishes in the house are very high end. The lighting system, complete with gorgeous fixtures and dimmers on nearly all switches, lets you create your own atmosphere.
We were among the first renters at the house and some new house issues (sensitive smoke detectors, etc.) came up but they were all dealt with very quickly and fully by Sean, the property manager. I don’t expect that they will be recurring issues for future guests.
The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped with everything you need to prepare large meals.
The upstairs bedroom is gorgeous and overlooks the public space of the house. All of the other bedrooms, while more simple than the grand upstairs bedroom, are also very nice, modern, clean, etc.
The house is located on the property of a condominium complex which has tennis courts, a pool, a small area for boating, shuffle board, etc. We were a family with a lot of kids, so we were happy to make use of these amenities.
Sean showed us a few old photos in the house that show the property when it was a party space a hundred years ago or so. I really enjoyed imagining the house in that time period and it inspired us to read up on the families who used to live there (or summer there).
Activities we enjoyed in the area: We were a family with 11 people from ages 4-86. Very close to the house (20 minutes or less) we enjoyed the Norman Rockwell Museum, a show at Shakespeare and Company and a half day of water slides at Bousquet mountain. One day we drove about 40 minutes to Jiminy Peak for an adventure park. I would recommend all of these activities for families with children. We also would have been very happy and comfortable just spending whole days at the Playhouse, which in addition to being beautiful, has board games, books, a huge TV, etc.
I hope the owner and his friends and family as well as all the guests that rent the house enjoy it as much as we did.
