'Beautiful' is the word for the week. We found ourselves using this word daily to describe the experiences this vacation brought us; from the sunrise on Herrick Bay (from the Bayleaf Cottage) to the sunset on Sand Beach in Stonington, and many places in between.
The cottage is tucked away in a very quiet and remote setting with ever changing views of the bay. It is exceptionally clean, very spacious, tastefully decorated and the kitchen is well-appointed (completely true to the listing). We loved the location and cottage so much that we started our days with breakfast on the deck overlooking the bay and ended our day making dinner on the grill and enjoying a fire in the portable fire pit...so we don't have recommendations for restaurants, but I hear there are many great places.
There are plenty of maps and local information in the cottage to help you with your daily planning of places to explore and things to do.
We spent our days on hiking trails well marked by the Heritage Trust, kayaking in Eggemoggin Reach and Blue Hill Bay and biking the many roads in and around Brooklin. We took in the Blue Hill Fair, the Wooden Boat School and Store, and the Farmer's Market in Brooklin and Blue Hill.
We have spent many years in Bass Harbor on Mt. Desert Island and wanted to try something different this year. We felt we were close enough to take a ride over there if we wanted more to do. However, we were not lacking in things to do or places to explore, so we never even thought about leaving the area. There is so much more we would like to do here and would 'highly recommend' the area and especially the Bayleaf Cottage. We are looking forward to visiting this area again and would choose Bayleaf without a question.
