If your family lives a hectic life this farmhouse is the perfect retreat. We spent a week here in August 2016 and were thrilled the minute we drove up the driveway. Before we even went inside the house, we peeked in on the chickens we quickly nicknamed Ryan Lochte and Simone Biles (clearly, it was Olympics time). They provided delicious eggs and endless entertainment for all of us.
The house is even prettier than the pictures. It is beautifully maintained, freshly painted and allows in a ton of sunlight. With the windows and doors open the breeze was always refreshing and we were comfortable. (Fans in the upstairs bedrooms were a nice bonus and we never missed our home A/C.) We were thrilled with how well stocked the house is... every bedroom has plenty of blankets and pillows, with extra sheets. There are towels for the bathrooms. And the kitchen has every implement you need if you cook. Bonus: lots of little pantry staples that make vacationing in a home so much easier... no need for buying oil or sugar or flour at the store. (We rent a home in another state and we have to bring/buy everything I've mentioned... it is a huge help to have all of this there, and in great working shape.)
The home sits on a stunning piece of property... the pictures don't do it justice. We loved sitting around the fire pit and just relaxing-- we felt no rush to go out because being at home was lovely. A sweet, outdoor kitty became a part of the family (in spite of my allergy). There is a short bike ride to a conservation area that has easy hiking trails (not challenging for real hikers, but great for small kids or a nice nature walk). Goose Rocks beach is a 10 minute drive and it is stunning. When the tide is out it is great for walking or even riding bikes on the beach. The center of Kennebunkport is also about a 10 minute drive with cute shops and restaurants.
Wildwood farm is a great central location... this was a first family trip to Maine and we easily visited Portland, Ogunquit (a must), and Freeport.
I had a few questions about the area/home while we were visiting and emails/texts to the owner were quickly returned. We had a few nice text chats! I don't know if we will be able to get back to Maine anytime soon but if we do we will absolutely stay here again. Even though we generally love staying at the beach, it was so nice to have a "country" home . I highly recommend if you have kids of any age, or are traveling with older relatives who can do stairs.
