                      Home away from Home

The location was perfect for us. It was a 6 unit building, so very quiet. We stayed in Crows nest and enjoyed being on the top floor. When we first arrived it was very late from our long drive, we walked in and felt right at home. A bunch of information was laid out for us to find our way around the areas attractions. Everything was neat and very clean. The owner thought of everything we could possible need if we had forgot something. We came to go to Acadia national park and did the first day but this rental is closer to Acadia on the Schoodic Peninsula. This side is peaceful and was just want we were looking for on our long run day. This rental is a hidden gem!

Perfect, beautiful place and lovely hosts!

This couldn't have been a more perfect spot to get away and enjoy the Maine coast. I hardly know where to begin, as the site, apartment and hosts were all wonderful! The site is peaceful, on a quiet road, with fabulous views and a beautiful garden. The apartment is light, airy, clean and spacious. I loved the deck and the views, and had plenty of privacy, but also knew that my hosts were available at all times to answer questions, etc. The manual in the apartment covers all the basics, and everything was spotlessly clean. We particularly enjoyed kayaking in the lovely inlet, the views, the lovely stone work, and the proximity to Milbridge, Machias and many beaches, parks and protected areas. It was a pleasure getting to know Richard and Susan, and I truly hope to be able to return again!

A better way to experience Acadia.

Initially I was leery staying on the mainland but the peace and quiet you gain by being away from the island made it a better experience. I've stayed on the island (which was fantastic) but I greatly prefer driving an hour if you want the island experience for a day or two rather than waiting an hour for a table you can get the same food immediately on the mainland. Prices ar similar but accessibility is instant. If you are looking for nightlife, you have a much more laid back option called the Pickled Wrinkle. They have live music several nights per week but their menu is largely fried seafood. Corea's "Lunch on tha Water" is a fabulous lunch option. Great all meat lobster rolls. I didn't try it but they did have a whole lobster option. Chases's Restaurant had fabulous lobster stew and delightful non-fried scallop options although they do overwork their poor staff. Fried seafood is abundant and fabulous everywhere in Maine but no waiting on the "quiet side of Acadia" which is no less beautiful than the island just no traffic or crowds. Very bicycle friendly area. It was very nice having a full kitchen option even though we only took advantage of it once with whole lobsters from the Co-op. Could have saved hundreds of dollars on food just chose not to. The food in the Winter Harbor restaurants was fabulous with no waiting! When I return (Cleveland) I will stay on the quiet side again. May try tent camping to cut costs.
