                Simply Outstanding!

We are repeat visitors to Mt. Desert Island and the magic of Acadia, with the good fortune to have visited many times over the past 20+ years. For this summer’s trip, we traveled with extended family who had never visited Acadia before. We found the listing for Sound View and there were no reviews when we booked, so we did a bit more research and found the great reviews for Randy and Erica Merchant’s other properties on the island. We thought Sound View would work well for us since we were two families (each with a dog) and we could keep our two teenagers busy with the available games, volleyball, basketball, and of course (!) Wi-Fi. The description and photos shown do not do justice showcasing this amazing home! First of all, the location is breathtaking – up a small hill off of Hall Quarry Rd with a phenomenal view of Sargent and Norumbega Mountains! The differing times of the day showcase the beauty with such different types of light – a photographer could just setup a tripod and attempt to capture this beauty for hours! Add some fog in the morning, or the amazing sunrises – just breathtaking! Now to the house – it’s beautiful! A wide open kitchen with TONS of storage space (great for the grocery run on the way to MDI!) with a comfortable living room on the main floor. The two bedrooms on the main floor are separated by the bathroom so you are not in each other’s way. Downstairs is the entertainment room, plus two more bedrooms (also separated from one another) and the small bunk bedroom which we used as a changing room. There are two doors downstairs to go outside to the yard, which is helpful when taking a dog outside for a walk (on a leash). We had several cookouts using the gas grill on the deck, and several campfires using the fire pit in the yard. There was nothing we needed during our stay. There’s an ample supply of cooking materials for the kitchen. Plenty of towels for both upstairs and downstairs, handily stored by both washers and dryers. Plenty of glassware available as well. We had a couple of questions before and during our stay, so we emailed Erica and received lightning fast responses. Not sure how she does it, but she does! This was our first stay in Hall Quarry. We prefer “the quiet side” of MDI and have often stayed in Southwest Harbor. Thanks to the outstanding experience at Sound View, we plan to return. Our stay at Sound View was simply a treasure. Thank you for helping us make so many outstanding memories!

Fantastic location! We had the best time and the location is great for exploing the entire island.

A great time and the property was nicely equipped with everything needed for a pleasant stay. An easy drive to all areas of the island. Great views and very clean. The only issue that we had was sometimes there was an unpleasant smell on the deck. I assume this was coming form the septic system. Other than that, we could not have been more pleased with our stay.

                Cute Cottage

My husband, sister and brother-in-law spent three night here, and had an amazing time. The road is a little noisy but you couldn't hear the cars at night or with the door closed. The cabin was perfectly clean and there was plenty of space for the 4 of us. The kitchen worked great for cooking and the towns around the cabin have great dining options if you'd prefer to eat out. The lake across the street is perfect for swimming and the hikes near the house and on the other side of the island are incredible. Definitely would come back!
