                  Perfect location!

                  5 of 5
We really enjoyed the Wayman house for our short stay in Bar Harbor. It is walking distance to everything and right next door to 3 great restaurants including Havana, where the Obama's dined on their visit! The home itself had everything we needed and a great wifi connection. Greg (the owner) was easily accessible and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. We would definitely stay at the Wayman house again.

                  spectacular Maine coast retreat

                  5 of 5
We enjoyed a superb week at this home. Our group was a family reunion with 10 adults and 4 children, and we fit pretty well, although some of the kids slept on the floor in sleeping bags and in a travel crib. The location is quiet and private, a mile from a sleepy fishing village and right on the water. The views are unmatched and the house is set up to showcase the views with a huge wraparound porch, 2nd floor porch off of the master suite, and lots of comfortable deck furniture. We rented kayaks from Acadia 1 Kayaks (also highly recommend!), which delivered to the house, and spent most mornings paddling up and down the harbor. We saw seals, bald eagles, and a variety of waterfowl. There are a few neighbors down the road, but we only saw them from our kayaks as we were paddling back to the house. Although 30 minutes from Ellsworth and 60 minutes from Bar Harbor, the house is very close to Schoodic Point, Winter Harbor, and Prospect Harbor, which are worth exploring and offer much beyond the overdeveloped side of Acadia. The kitchen is well equipped with many items I didn't expect to find including a spice cabinet and muffin tins. There is a large easy to use gas grill on the back porch. The master suite is expansive and has unbelievable views of Prospect harbor. The two downstairs bedrooms with queen beds are spacious with private baths. The other two downstairs bedrooms (bunk bed and twin rooms) are quite small, but adequately furnished. The bathrooms are all up to date and comfortable. There is no bath tub (only showers). The sauna is great, we got it up to 200 degrees and used it most evenings. The two living rooms are adequate. The sofas and chairs are not super comfy as mentioned in prior reviews, but to be honest this was one of the few minuses, and didn't factor much into our stay, as we spent most of the daytime outside hiking and boating.

Beautiful home, wonderful location, great owner

                  5 of 5
The Post & Beam Home is the picture perfect vacation home in the ideal location. We've rented this house four times over the past 15 years, and each time we've had an absolutely delightful vacation. The home is beautiful, spacious, and comfortable, and the design is exactly what you'd hope for in a Maine waterfront home, with a soaring cathedral ceiling, exposed natural beams, and gorgeous views of the water. The layout is excellent, with some really nice touches -- e.g., half of the porch is enclosed, which means you can enjoy the morning fog without the chill; and there's a study (with printer) in the second floor loft, in case you have to do a bit of work on vacation. The owner is very responsive and has done a terrific job of keeping the home in tip-top shape. The owner retains an excellent cleaning crew -- the home has always been spotless when we arrive. The bedrooms have a lot of storage space, with lots of drawers and closet space, which is nice for a week-long stay. Also, the owner is very generous with the things that make a stay more comfortable, like a dozen extra towels in each bathroom, plenty of extra toilet paper, a fresh roll of paper towels in the kitchen, etc. -- simple conveniences that make a difference. The home is a 12 minute drive to the nearest entrance to Acadia National Park, where there's amazing biking and hiking, and maybe another 5 minutes or so into Bar Harbor for shopping and dining. Or you can pick up the LL Bean bus at the end of the street, about a quarter mile walk from the end of the driveway; the bus makes stops just about anywhere you'd want to go. The rental cost isn't cheap, but each time we've stayed here the vacation has been great and memorable. Beautiful home, great waterfront setting, perfect architecture for the location, easy access to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, and a very responsive owner. There's a reason we keep coming back.
