Our time at the Cottage on Piper Pond was perfect -- the cottage had all the amenities we wanted for a week truly AWAY! We enjoyed long walks on the pond roads, listening to the calls of the loons, and swimming and kayaking on Piper Pond (which in any other state, would be called a lake!). The spot is centrally located enough to allow us short drives to significant hikes (Appalachian Trail, Borestone and Barren Mtns, and Wilson Falls), to close-by lakes like Onawa, Hebron and Moosehead, and to great local restaurants in Monson, Greenville and Dover-Foxcroft. The cottage had all the cooking and grilling items we needed to make meals at home, as well. Having rented a lot of similar cottages in both Maine and Colorado, we especially appreciated how thoughtfully and beautifully decorated and furnished the Cottage on Piper Pond was -- just enough to make it feel like home without being stuffed to the gills with tchotchkes and second-hand couches. The owners left us sparklers in honor of our 4th of July visit and just made us feel so at home and comfortable. One thing to note (which was not a problem for us, but might be for others): most cell service (at least ATT) is not available in this part of Maine. The cottage's wifi worked well, but we needed to drive into town to pick up actual cell phone calls and messages. You may want to ask for the cottage's landline in advance, if you need to provide it for emergencies or work purposes. Or, just enjoy being disconnected for a bit: bring a few books, your swim suit and your hiking boots to this wonderfully appointed cottage on Piper Pond, and enjoy a magical week away from it all!
