The home was great, but the owner was even better

              5 of 5
Our group of 27 adults stayed at The Hive for a weekend in mid-October, and we had a wonderful time. We enjoyed kayaking on Moose Pond, hiking up Pleasant Mountain, playing games at the house, and making s'mores with the indoors fire. The home lives up to its "luxury" name and includes all of the amenities we could have wanted. The main floor is beautiful and has a nice, open feel to it that was perfect for our group to hang out in. Everyone in our group was impressed, and many of them asked me, "Where did you find this place?" But for as nice as this home is, the reason I'd book this place again in a heartbeat is because of the owner. The truth is that there are many beautiful and luxurious homes on VRBO; there are not many owners like Eric. It seemed like no matter what I asked, Eric always tried to accommodate us to make our stay as positive as possible. Eric always made an effort to say "yes" to any requests. For instance, I didn't know how many group members we'd have... could we have more than 22 guests? Yes. Could we bring pets? Yes. Could we get a late checkout? Yes. Not only did Eric give us what we asked, he gave much more than I expected. He charged no fee for extra guests or pets, and he said that as long as there wasn't a group coming in the following day, we could spend the rest of Sunday at the house, free of charge. I also appreciated that I didn't have to buy firewood, since there was plenty at the house. And if we needed to cancel, he offered a full refund if they successfully rebooked our dates; otherwise, we'd only lose the $400 security deposit, which seemed more than reasonable. Eric always put our best interest above his own, and his flexibility made things so much easier on us. I wasn't sure if 27 adults would be too much for this home, and ultimately I'd say that it was a bit cramped. The house sleeps 18 on beds IF the five double beds are shared, plus there's a futon upstairs and a large couch downstairs. I knew that might be an issue, so it's not a complaint (Eric provided plenty of info in emails), but that's just some perspective for future renters. The outdoor grill was the only thing that I'd say was in poor condition, but Eric said they planned to replace it soon. Ultimately, the owner's excellent communication and customer service, as well as the home, scenery, and amenities, easily justified the cost of this rental. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs to accommodate a large group.

Best Reunion Week Ever!!!!! Great House for Very Large Group!!

              5 of 5
Date of Stay: 07/21/12 Review Submitted: 08/03/12 The Kossow Lodge is a great place for a family reunion or get together. My family(8 brothers and sisters) have not been ALL together for over 15 years, as we are spread out all over the country. I wanted to have a special family reunion for my mother's 80th birthday and we could not have had a more perfect week than at Kossow Lodge. I started planning the week last summer with the help of Nancy Eaton. She was extremely willing to answer any and all questions I had regarding the facility. The lodge far out-weighed our expectations. We had a very large group, over the suggested 22, and we were very comfortable in our accomadations, There were 4 pull-out sofas in the enormous basement for the older children, who liked to stay up late and play games and watch TV! It was a great place for them, because you could not hear a peep upstairs! We had all ages ranging from 8-80, and there was something for everyone, I have a very active family and there were quite a few trails to run and exercise very close by. The lake itself if absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The kayaks, canoe, sunfish and motorboat were a hit with our entire group. The lake temperature was surprisingly warm and the lake itself was not crowded with other boaters at all. We felt like we were the only ones on the lake most of the week. We have had some large family gatherings in the past and have never had a kitchen stocked with so many amenities to accomadate our large number of people. There was also SO much room to actually sit and eat as a family, I have also never rented a house with so much seating for meals. The screened porch was used at night for family reminiscing, and we all fit very comfortably. If you were quiet enough, you could hear the loons every night. We left a few items behind on check-out day, and Nancy graciously sent the items immediately. I had the opportunity to meet both Nancy and Deke Eaton on check-in day and check-out day and there couldn't be two nicer people, who have thought of everything to make the Kossow Lodge an experience you won't soon forget. There are so many activites and sights nearby, I could have spent a month there and not done them all! My 8o-year old mom said it best - "it was the perfect week" I would highly recommend the Kossow Lodge to anyone who wants a week on a lake to remember! Crescent Lake Lodge

              5 of 5
We’ve just reserved our 3rd annual week at the lodge. This is a great place to vacation and we just love it. We come back year after year with a full compliment of kids, cousins, parents and friends. The place is grand, well decorated and a terrific getaway. We come each year with the intention of visiting all of the local sites, but usually just stay in and enjoy the peace and quite of this home and the beautiful lake setting. The porch and hammocks are great for reading and the house is large enough for everyone to find a favorite place to relax. The kitchen is large, well laid out, and fully equipped. The rooms are nicely decorated and very high end. The only drawback is that our time flies by and we leave wishing that our week was just starting.
