We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Crow's Nest cottage in Bass Harbor! My husband and I have visited MDI several times but never stayed outside of Bar Harbor. We loved this location! It was a busy week in Acadia National Park and in Bar Harbor (even Southwest Harbor), so it was nice to come "home" in the evening to a quieter setting. We had been to Thurston's on past trips so we were thrilled to walk down the street for dinners. As a family of four now (8 year old twin boys), we were very comfortable in the house and had everything we needed. Thank you!

This is a lovely house surrounded by blooming flower gardens located just a 2-minute walk to the harbor. We enjoyed colorful sunsets over the harbor every night and more than one dinner of ocean treats at the Seafood Ketch restaurant perched at the water’s edge. The house is recently established as a rental and Peg has done a wonderful job creating a cozy and comfortable setting. There is plenty of room for 2-4 people in this small yet spacious house. It is clean and well maintained with new mattresses, sheets, pillows, and bath towels supply the sleeping quarters – ahhh! As described in the listing, upstairs beds are in an open floor plan with the Queen and two twins divided by a partial wall that worked well for our family of four. There’s also a new pullout couch on the first floor but we didn’t try it out. The kitchen is well equipped for meals in and having a washer/dryer onsite is handy. The wifi connection is available if you need to "plug in" but we recommend taking advantage of the opportunity to go outside to smell the roses! Peg was friendly and helpful with whatever we needed. She has provided a set of island and park maps and brochures for local activities to help you get oriented and to plan your activities. This is a great location for daytrips to the many sights, ocean paths, carriage trails of Acadia National Park (bring your bikes!). It is just a few minutes to the Bass Harbor lighthouse and ocean walks. We also recommend sea kayaking on the western side of the island with Maine State Sea Kayak out of Southwest Harbor and a visit to Thuya and Asticou Azalea gardens in Northeast Harbor. There is so much to do on Mt. Desert Island each day and Peg’s cottage made for a quiet home base for our week’s stay. I look forward to returning some day.

The house is well-maintained and beautiful. We loved staying there, and the owners were amazingly kind to us. They did everything they could to make our visit the best ever. We visited from the 25th of June to the 2nd of July. We were a family of four visiting from Denmark (Europe) and our kids was 3 years and 11 months, respectively. The owners provided outstanding service - they quickly replied to all our questions, and even helped to locate a good nearby pediatrician for our youngest when he got otitis. We quickly made the 1st floor baby safe and that really made the stay a lot more relaxing for us. Most evenings we BBQ'ed on the patio. There is a supermarket 5 minutes away, and there is a Hannaford about 20 minutes away in Bar Harbour. We enjoyed the setting in the woods, and the house were kept cool in the shadow of the trees. The house and decor is so nice - it felt like we were staying in a presidential suite - just with more room. The bathrooms are really nice and everything is shiny, modern and new. We would like to come back to this house some day. We have no problem recommending this place to friends and relatives - in fact we already did :) We don't know much about the restaurants, as we had dinner at home every night. However, while taking my weekly 8 miles run - I found that if you go on the other side of the cove, then there is a nicely located lobster pond, a museum formed as a light house, and a beautiful view of the lobster boats. Go there in the late afternoon - it's so beautiful! Recommended trips: Drive up the mountain, go on the park route and see the thunder hole, go visit the wonderland trail (nearby), go on a lobster or tour boat and see how lobsters are caught, visit the small islands, see the seals. There is lots to do in Acadia - we didn't do that much because we traveled with small children. We want to come back at some point - and we would like to stay in the same house :)
